Lancer Evolution X News, Info, Pics, etc... | [ALL THREADS MERGED]
This is from VW's own German website from this link:
http://www.volkswagen-media-services...tlichkeit.html
Allow me to translate:
The identical motor equipped Touran with DSG beats the acceleration numbers of the manual version by up to 0.3 seconds. The top speed of the 1.9TDI (177 km/h) and the 2.0TDI (197km/h) are identical. Responsible for the difference however is THE FACT THAT THE DSG MODELS (note it says models, not model!) PRODUCE 3-4 MORE KW OF POWER DUE TO MODIFIED ENGINE TUNING.
I'm not sure how much clearer that can be. They specifically say models and FACT.

And what were they accelerating to? 10km/h? top speed limiter? I might see it on the top speed limiter but, it would take more than 5hp to .3 off the 0-100km/h time.
I guess people here aren't used to reading articles critically. The entire point of my post is to show that the two cars are not tuned identically and SPECIFICALLY that VW makes ABSOLUTELY NO CLAIM that the DSG car is faster because of the transmission. Now why would they not claim that? Hmmm...
It doesn't state what the torque difference is but it CLEARLY states that the difference is DUE to the tuning. If you are saying that the DSG transmission car would be faster than a manual transmission car if they have the same power output, then you are DISAGREEING with VW engineers. Yes it shifts faster, but the car does not go faster. It's as simple as that. FYI when you are talking about a 100-120hp TDI motor (as in the article quoted) that doesn't rev well a 5hp difference is probably at least 10-15 ft lbs of torque.

How many of you are dissapointed in Mitsubishi and the new X?
I read some things in sport compact the other day and I have no desire to ever own a new 10. I have also heard it's not being made in japan anymore and is off the same platform as the dodge caliber and a few others.. which I don't know for sure.
Either way.. if I want to run my car to redline and above and blow the ***** up... then that's what I want. I don't want some computer shifting it for me. Most of us know how to drive a stick.. this new tranny is made for idiots.
I also read that because of the way the car is set up it will be virtually impossible to mod. I am very disappointed with this car. Mitsubishi is already in financial trouble and I think this will seal their fate. Glad I got the 9 before this one came out.

If you call the F1 formula racers and the rally drivers idiots then I don't know what would you call regular everyday drivers as the mentioned two use DSG/SMG (auto-manual) trannies on daily basis as performance wise it is superior to manual transmissions whether you like it or not. Besides Mitsu will offer the X with a manual transmission anyway.
One thing Mitsu mentioned at Detroit Auto Show in January was that the new engine was over-engineered to take additional boost. Thats all I need to know to realize that Mitsu didn't abandon it's hardcore crowd and I am more then sure the new engine will be more refined than 4G63 as the technology has evolved in the last 27 years (4G63 first appeared about 27 years ago), since then there have been major advancements in engine technology, besides, Evo is an international cult rally-car, Eclipse was just an American creation, I am not worrying about the performance nor handling of the car, if the new regular Lancer has a more rigid structure than a current Evo IX, nothing else needs to be said about Evo X. I am more than sure Evo X will be the best Evo yet as Mitsubishi really seems to be going all out with the new Lancers.

i support the evo X even though i myself will most likely get a IX Se. The reason i support the EVO X is because Mitsubishi is still supporting its performance vehicle and now its evolved again thats all. Wait until its released and truly tested to make opinions about its engine or how good it really is.
Jeeezzzz, where do you get your facts from? So much criticism towards something that isn't even out yet and won't be here until the Tokyo Auto Show. The Evo X will be made where it is made now (Mizushima Plant in Japan). Platform sharing is nothing new, besides, Mitsubishi was doing most of the design for the new platform while being paid by Chrysler and when DaimlerChrysler got rid of Mitsu in 2004/05, the platform wasn't even finished to begin with, so basically Chrysler and Mitsu finished it off on it's own so they really aren't the same, may have some similarities but not the same, besides, Mitsubishi was behind most of it anyway, they just sold it to Chrysler.

Um.. Can't really say anything on top of this.. Good job!!
something else DOES need to be said... The X will weigh 200 pounds MORE than the IX, despite the fact that the new engine is over 50 pounds LIGHTER than the 4G63!!!!! Thats over 250 pounds of added weight with this new platform and luxury crap they are putting into it. It will be as much Audi as it will Evo
Probably.. You have to take into account that the car is BIGGER than the current Evo/Lancer.. So for it to be more rigid, and better in one area, means they have to beef schit up in other areas to hold up.. I dont mind the fact that it might be 200lbs heavier than the current Evo.. I kinda hate the interior of my car, and I've done as much as I can to make it better.. I look forward to the change, whether it be "more luxurious" or not.. But somethings gotta change..
