Everybody pays attention to the bad, like the extra weight from SAYC, or DCT. You know comparably, Audi/VW's DSG only weighs 50-70 lbs more than the manual counterpart. Minus the LSD, add the SAYC, that's no more than a net gain of 50lbs. In both cases the extra weight is warranted by a significant increase in performance, the former shaving ~5 tenths in the quarter mile, and the latter will shave time off at the circuit.
Let's focus on the weight savings, like the lighter construction, engine and forged aluminum suspension.
Common sense tells me evolution means a step forwards. Not backwards, and if there is really a weight increase, it will be minimal and will be offset by performance increases.

Saturn Sky Redline(turbo) is .5 s quicker 0-60 with the automatic gear box rather than the shifter

Yeah i just dont get why everyone is knockin the weight, its not like it's going to be heavier just because. Its heavier because of all the added performance increases. The automatic does weigh more than the manual, but we are talking about a twin clutch transmission, its performance increase will more than do enough to make up for its weight.

Carboy, the most significant weight gains will come from the added safety features. FLK, the current Evo already has forged aluminum suspension parts.

Crap, they are saying the manual is going to be a 5 speed. We had been hearing 6 speed for a while now after hearing 5 speed in the beginning.

Transfer case + Driveshaft + rear S-AWC diff + front diff S-AWC upgrade + half-shafts = 53 lbs? As optomistic as I am, I don't think so. If it is true, I'll be amazed, and the X's final weight will probably a stone's throw from the MR.

EDIT; I just re-read that.. Did you mean "53lbs!!! [new sentence] Less than the current drivetrain." Or "53lbs less than the current drivetrain." ?
Automobile Mag.

"As is the case with the outgoing car, the new Evolution's mechanical package revolves around a turbocharged, DOHC, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and all-wheel drive. We don't yet know the output figures for the all-new four-cylinder, but Mitsubishi has said that the engine is some 53 pounds lighter than the old one. The all-wheel-drive system again will feature driver-selectable settings for gravel, pavement, and snow, but the system will also incorporate active yaw control, which directs power to the outside rear wheel when cornering. Expect stability control to finally join the party as well."

Also from Car and driver they said it will have an aluminum block and head but the RS will have an iron block and aluminum head.

Ok, I thought this was new info about the tc/diffs. The ~50lb weightloss at the engine has been discussed before. I wonder when this was written, because S-AWC has alrady been announced and described in detail, yet they seem to know nothing about it.

And the RS having an Iron block is just FUD. Why design a whole new block for just ONE car? The Lacer DE has an AL block, seems silly to make an iron block engine for just the RS when the other 5(?) trim lines have AL blocks.

Yeah, I'd MUCH rather have a 6-speed manual than a 5. It seems kind of odd for a performance car to only have a 5-speed nowadays. I'm hoping that a;; this 5-speed talk is just because the majority of the past Evos were 5-speeds. Either way, I'll get the manual. Maybe we'll be lucky and they'll have an "MR" with a 6-speed.

I dont know when it was written but it is in the new issue too. The engine blocks are shared by Hyundi and DChrysler, so its not just one car it would go into if this is true.
