Lancer Evolution X News, Info, Pics, etc... | [ALL THREADS MERGED]
I don't think it's a X.
1. You said you took the pics last Friday June 1, 2007 right? Mitsu has announce what the X would look like months ago so why disguise it? Also when the car are disguise, they usually only have the front bra or other body parts covered up. They only look like this when it's a concept car. But Mitsu stop the Concept X thingy for awhile already.
2. Why did they need to upgrade the rims?
To me, I think it's just a regular 8 that wants to be a X. He could had just converted to RHD and put in the dash of the newer lancer.

Dunno, that's how I'd see it. The new technology is here to stay, Mitsu isn't going to go "oops, here's the 4G63 back." So we need to look forward. If you're always looking at what's behind you, you won't see the trees ahead of you.
To be honest, if a tuner's great claim to fame with the X is based around a 4G63 swap, I certainly wouldn't take my business there. Innovation and evolution go hand-in-hand. WIthout innovation, there can be no evolution, and a tuner like that would be, to my eyes, a "genetic dead end." I'd rather spend my money with a company that's out there trying new things and pushing the limits of new technology.
For a community based around a car called the *EVOLUTION* I'm surprised how much resistance there is to change. Especially since the X will most likely be the best handling USDM Evo, period.

In body, no. But the drivetrain and interior is. Look at the hood, then take a look at the underhood pictures of the Prototype X and the front-on pictures of the Evo X. Those bulges are clearly for the X's more direct intercooler piping.
This is a "Mule" or a car that has features of a to-be-released model in the body of an older model. No bra is needed since the styling is of the 9. Also, if you look further on in the thread, there are pictures of an identical mule on the Nuremburgring. Threre's no need for a full-bodied X since the current mule has all the features they need to test and is already built.
It has been stated that the X has a wider track and wider tires (245s on 18s vs 235s on 17s I believe) they would need rims for the new tires. And possibly they needed a different offset to fit the new tires *and* new suspension under the old fenders.
I think you may have missed the pictures of the mule on the Nuremburgring.

After seeing the pics of the test mule at the nurburgring, I'm totally convinced that it's the test bed for the new X. I'm sorry guys
By the way, I read in one of the car magazine that the new X will have a cast iron block but only in the RS model.
Really, I think the car magazines out there are speculating just as much as we are, but the info you read in them is already going to be a month or so old.
It sucks having to wait so long to get our hands on an X, but I'm sure it'll be worth it. At least we have to only wait until Sept. or Oct. for the official unveiling and technical stats.
in ann arbor mitsu has the emissions testing facility where i have seen a few mules running around. the EPA emissions headquarters is in ann arbor so every new us market vehicle has to come here for final emissions testing and certification. we see a lot of cars with camo around this area
i met a guy driving an apex silver X with evo VIII body panels around here (4300 Varsity Dr # E, Ann Arbor, MI 48108). you might have seen this same mule desert testing, with some frankenstein looking quarter panels. it was RHD, and pretty much gutted, but he told me he was testing the transmission. i was able to pull up right next to him and talk to him face to face
at a traffic light. it sounded like a beast (with its dual pea shooter exhaust)!!!!

Interesting analysis of the Evolution X
Hey guys,
Check out this link: http://sean-the-man.blogspot.com/200...fications.html
The author pretty much summarizes all the know facts about the new Lancer/Evo X and speculates a bit about potential performance.

He makes some good points, and I like some of the ideas he has. I hope some of them pan out. Though I'm not sold on the 8K redline. High revs get you good HP numbers, but it's torque that really counts. It sounds like the 4B11 will take to stroking well. Hopefully we'll get the best of both worlds once the Tuners get a hold of the engine; torque from displacement and a high redline.
With the rigidity of the new body, the S-AWC, and if he's right about the brakes, the X sounds like it'll be tearing chunks out of the corners of the test tracks.
Much as I like Subaru, the more I hear about the Evo X, the more I think the STI won't have a chance (stock for stock). I hope I'm wrong; I hope Subaru surprises us. Subaru needs some muscle and agility under that bulbous body, and Mitsu can't be alowed to get complacent.
