IHI turbo for the Evo X?
http://www.motortrend.com/future/fut...rformance.html
This article also has some discussion on why they chose to go with a 2.0 liter engine instead of a 2.4 or a 2.5 liter, along with a rumor that in 2008 they might change to a larger engine - this to go along with a possible change in WRC rules in 2008.
Also they say specifically that the new tranny will be a 2-clutch system (like DSG) whereas most other things I have seen on that don't say how many clutches. Also that it will be "sourced", which in corporate lingo usually means they are either buying it from somebody else, or are just having somebody else build it for them to Mitsu specs.
As usual on the web I can't find a date on this article (one of my pet peeves), but it sounds like it was the March 2007 issue, written after the Detroit auto show.

From concept to reality
After teasing enthusiasts with concept after concept, Mitsubishi finally showed the Prototype X Concept at the NAIAS in Detroit last January – and it is that very concept that will evolve into the production version of the Lancer Evolution, affectionately known as the Evo X.
Officially arriving as an early 2009 model (in the first quarter of 2008), the Evo X will be powered by a turbocharged version of the 2.0-liter I4, and will be equipped with an AWS system – complete with stability control.
In the same category as Subaru’s WRX and the upcoming Nissan Skyline GTR – the all-wheel-drive system – known as Super-All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) – may make this the best handling vehicle in its class.
Even under the camouflage, we can see that the sheet metal on this test car is identical to that of the Prototype X Concept, although we doubt the LEDs will make it all the way to production – but even the head restraints on this vinyl-clad car match those on the shiny red concept.

u know when u see soemthing at first?? and u absolutly hate it... but over time it begins to grow on you and you love it????? well, the evo X is doing the opposite for me.. the more i see it, the more i hate it! ahhh i dono.. maybe ill change my mind when they come out.. lol
All I know is that I saw and sat in a regular 08 Lancer GTS and it REALLY impressed me.. One of the district managers had a demo at NHRA.. It came with all the bells and whistles.. Navigation sound, bluetooth (which I made a phone call on his cell from the car) haha- it was clear as a bell (voice activated also), CVT transmission.. All that stuff for 22,600.... I was shocked.. Of course he still has no info on the X yet.. But he did say that a Protoype X was "driving around the area".. I'll schit my pants if I see it somewhere..
Here is a link to a Motor Trend article that says it will be an IHI turbo.

Until then, the Evolution X will use an IHI-turbocharged variant of the 4B11 engine in the Lancer. This all-new "world" engine has a cast-aluminum block with an open-deck design developed in conjunction with DaimlerChrysler and Hyundai. Forum fanboys may whine for the closed-deck iron lump of old, but this is a new breed of engine-lightweight and designed specifically for forced induction, with extra ribbing and reinforcement.
The way it is worded makes it sound like they designed the engine in cooperation with DC and Hyundai, and their version was IHI based. I highly doubt
will use another competitors turbo in their car. MITSUBISHI TURBOS RULE!
Just wouldn't make sense is all I am saying....but hey it does saying something pretty controversial there.

lmao since motortrend know so much about the car why dont they say the HP and engine spec's. every major mag out there is usein the same pic's the same he say she say **** no info is good unless its from Mitsu. It will not be a shock to me if it was mitsu who put out those pic's of the X in gray that was covered.
