Lancer Evolution X News, Info, Pics, etc... | [ALL THREADS MERGED]
He's saying that an insurance company will most likely refuse to pay a cent towards getting your car fixed if they see that you purposefully removed your rear crash beam. I thought long and hard about the JDM rear but I eventually decided that the risk of having to cover major damages didn't seem worth it at all.
I am skeptical as I have yet to see a picture of one. There were countless threads related to this subject matter and no one was ever able to produce a pic of anything other than the rear bumper support piece, which is flimsy sheet metal and useless anyway since the US bumper has the same support. LateBrakeU2, I know a very accomplished chassis fabricator in Long Beach who modified my exisiting crash beam to fit behind the JDM bumper. Not the same as the US beam, but way better than nothing. Evo's are not the most robust cars when in accidents. In most rear collisions of any speed it will not matter if you had a crash beam in there or not. Another thing missing from the JDM bumper that doesn't exist is the crushable styrofoam piece that fits snugly in the US spec bumper.
Again, I won't believe there is an actual crash beam until I see a picture. I went through a bit of trouble and time to have the existing beam modified and I would not have gone through with it if I believed a non US spec beam existed.

This has ben covered a few times, but the only comapany that makes one for the 6 speed is WORKS and it has to be installed by them or an authorized WORKS dealer.

That foam piece is large part of the equation-I could see using some formula car type expanding seat mix foam baggied into the bumper shell, would form right up nicely but then there's the issue with the bracing fab work.. either way it's down to is the high worth the hurt-literally and or monetarily and I really dig the aesthetics of the JDM version.
