I'm still a bit new to the Evo scene, I have been waiting on buying one since I heard about the 10. A lot of you are saying the you would not get the dsg because you lose control of torque to wheels in the snow, that you would get better feel from a manual. My question is that with the 10 and the SAWYC or whatever the acronym is, is that the computer is supposed to be sensing the slippage at each wheel and adjusting the torque to each wheel within milliseconds of "feeling" it start to slip. I believe they had a video of a evo without this new system and a test mule with the system slaloming (sp?) through cones in snow and you could actually see the Evo with the new system handling better through the cones. So instead of you controlling the torque to the wheels yourself the computer is doing it for you and probably much faster and precise.

Ahh, but where's the fun in that? For me, it's all about fun. I'll use the S-AWC in the snow when I need to get from point A to Point B, but I'll turn it off when I'm just out and about. The S-AWC offers that choice, as Mitsu has already shows a button on the steeringwheel to turn it on and off. Unfortunately, a DSG transmission does not offer the choice of a clutch.

Sigh, manual is DEFINITELY fun! however, see how the traffic in Vancouver is always busy DSG seems most practical.

Fun vs. practicality!

I used to commute daily through Boston traffic in a '98 Trans Am 6-speed. I'll choose fun over practicality any day.

S-AWC is not dependant on the DSG. It will be fully functional in a Manual Evo as well.

pretty interesting thread. Great pics. I think, like most, it is a drivetrain mule.

I don't care what you call an automatic transmission. Shifting without a clutch is stupid. A true sports car needs a manual transmission! Offer an automatic just to appeal to a wider variety of people. There should be no discrepancy here.

I guess it really depends how one defines "a true sport car". F1? WRC? I would not call an automatic transmission stupid especially DSG! actually, it is pretty smart with the computer helping the driver to extract maximum performance out of a car!

So...could it mean that manual or DSG would yield the same result in the snow with the new system?

Kind of what it sounds like, now the only difference would be having a computer do it for you. It would be more precise and done in a fraction of a millisecond but from other peoples stories it might be a bit hard to get the timing down or feel for it. Only time will tell, like 9 more months or so.

I would go with manual, I view a car as a mode of entertainment and not just transport. While the DSG would be nice in traffic, and the split second shifts might be slightly entertaining for awhile. There is just something to be said about nailing the perfect smooth shift while rowing through the gears, or hitting a rev-match while diving into a corner full force. These moments bring a smile to my face, while a DSG could not.
