Interesting. It confirms how I figured it'd work. But it definately looks like a DSG transmission will be either slightly heavier, or weaker, than a manual.

I believe said the car will be heavier. So it's 3300lbs plus. I just hope it's below 3400 lbs.

Just wait and see

What else can the reason be to make it in auto/stick?

Other examples are exotic cars Ferrari, Lambo etc.
Why are they using paddle shifts? Because not everyone can drive stick and they needed to open the market up to new buyers.
Just try to think about 10-15 years ago how many exotic cars did you see on the road? not many, now they are a dime a dozen.

WOW this post really took off
Ferrari and Lambo put in 'auto' transmissions because they build their cars based on their race divisions. Or at least Ferrari does. F1 drivers have been using paddle shifted 'automatics' for years now, and they integrated them into their production models because they are race tested, not to open up the market. The main reason those cars are a dime a dozen(which I don't think they are) is because people are getting wealthier, and Ferrari stepped up production. =)

My EVO 9 MR weighs 3253 without me sitting in it...3428 when I'm in it.

Without drivers it's only a 247lb difference from your 3500 figure. I don't see the big deal really. Do you roadrace or drag race? If you don't it really doesn't matter.

250lbs definitely matters. Are you saying that people who don't race their Evos don't care how it performs, accelerates, handles, etc? Adding 250lbs not only is like removing 25whp, but it also affects braking distance, lateral cornering, acceleration, and likelihood of damage when doing any of the above.

Every 100 pounds is 1 tenth.

It matters!

Warr...if it was a matter of this guy competing as you do, or even going to the tracks for fun--this I would understand. But there are plenty of cars out there that weigh the same, and have no problems driving around town or braking within the required safety measures.

Again, normal driving...not a big deal. Does this guy drive like you? Probably not. I think this is just another post ******* an unknown aspect of the X before it's out.

Again, if you drag or roadrace...under normal driving conditions, the worst thing about it would be MPG and that's about it. Technically, yes, as Warr said it affects braking, acceleration, lateral movement, blah blah. But is it going to be a detriment to the thread starter's driving? Nope.

I can tell the difference of 100lbs in my car, even driving around on the street. You can tell in the way the car rolls in turns, accelerates, and brakes. You would have to be pretty dense to not feel 250lbs

And you can upgrade coils and bars to assist in eliminating that. For the average driver...it's not a big deal.

You would notice a difference if you had 3 people in the car as well...but are you going to crash because the car swayed too much or rolled too much? Probably not. You give yourself more braking distance and adjust your driving to match.

For the AVERAGE driver--this is making a mountain out of a mole hill.
