Anything with 3 Clutches is gonna be VERY complicated. You hear unsubstainiated MR woes cause of the 6 speed, so tell me---will those same people cry about the X's tranny problems? I can just see it now dumping the X at 5,500...launch control anyone? Traction cntrol?
Listen anything that has to be computer controlled will take ALL the FUN out of driving...period....

Damn those lazy bastards hahahaha

But I'd have to agree, maybe the automatic option will attract those that were originally detracted due to it only being a manual. But that ruins it for enthusiasts.

However, consider this: The paddles are just switches. It wouldn't take much for the computer to shift for you. I fear the DSG might have a 'D'.

Not that it matters to me, I'd get the manual. I don't want to give up the level of control I enjoy now. And most of my time won't be on the track, so I'd rather have the clutch for when I just want to go out and simply enjoy my car.

I'm sure there will be some lag when you want to upshift or downshift. But who know's, Mitsubishi might surprise us.

There will also be park, reverse, neutral, and drive modes just like a regular automatic with the SST equipped Evo X.

DSG is for the birds...

Differences between DSG and Automatic aside I can never imagine myself not using my feet to shift gears and shift in a different fashion with my hands. I thought to hold out for the EVO X before buying my EVO IX MR this year but when I heard they were doing DSG I thought it would be a great time to buy. I imagine the resell on my Evo IX MR will be higher than it would usually since the replacement model will feature DSG and others will likely feel as I do when looking to buy.

Anyone else care to weigh in on this point?

I don't think there's much if any neutral ground on where people stand on the Evo & the DSG (i.e. NOT AUTOMATIC). Indeed it'll set a new generation of people who are actually excited about it. Like me, I was moreso willing to make a compromise on getting an Evo & drive stick... with this there won't be much compromise with no clutch foot in the way. If this thing can still do mid 4 second sessions to 60 just flipping the paddles then I'm all for it.

How hard & reliable these trannies will be I think will be the one thing that'll come to mind when it comes to tuning and/or anyone that frequents the tracks.

Sure, a regular slushbox would be horrible in an Evo, but this isn't a regular slushbox. They're claiming it'll be better than VW's awesome DSG.
Quest - This is a great post. The first line says it all. Remember, when the first auto was produced, common wisdom was that it was only a novelty and would never replace the horse.

Technology makes cars safer, faster and more efficient. I'm not sure why anyone would not want those things. The only real reason I could see to question the Mitsu DSG is on strength. Is it going to be a strong and durable as the manual?
