U relize that guess can't be acturate. If they are deriving 3500 lbs by add 400 lbs to the base lancer that is going to be incorrect.
For instance the base 2006 was about 2800 lbs. Add the extra stuff that makes an EVO and EVO add another 400 lbs. The difference with the 2008 Evo is that it shares the same chassis. The 06 lancer need to add~200 lbs in enhancement to make as stiff as it is. This will not be needed in the 08 EVO. My guess is the car will weigh ~3200 lbs +/- 50lbs.

Also, as it was mentioned in above posts, the new Lancer is a bit larger car volumewise, it's not like it kept the old smaller dimensions and got heavier (also the new safety regulations don't make it any easier on reducing weight but that goes for the whole car industry). Another thing is that the car can get a bit heavier but as long as it is engineered right it shouldn't matter, it's all in the suspension, traction, and weight distribution and I am more than sure that even if the Evo will be heavier than previous generation, the new SAWC system will recompensate for the added weight as it will provide better traction. The new base Lancer is actually a bit shorter than previous generation but also wider, anyone who drove the new Lancer knows that the turning radius has been greatly improved and my experience it makes the new Lancer actually more agile and nimble than previous generation even though it is a bit heavier. Also, anyone who has seen the new engine will notice that it has a LOT of empty room in the back and I wonder what that space can be used for in an Evo X

don't forget the evo should have some aluminum panels to lighten the weight some too compared to the base lancer.
2-step is basically a second rev limiter....... I mean you have one rev limiter set at like 7500 rpms and is active any time you drive the car.
the 2-step from the factory is set at 5000 rpms and is only active while you are in gear with the cluth pedal depressed and reving the engine. The rpms will not go above the 5k or whatever it is set at, it's basically for launchin the car....

Why Automatic in the EVO X
I really think the new EVO X is automatic because this will open the doors for drivers that don't know stick, look at the new e60 M5 they made it automatic and sold more of them to buyers that would not even think of buying an M5 because they cant drive stick.
Trust me the new X will have a total new following because of the automatic, now this also translates to lower cost for the car, the more they build the cheaper it will be.
we should see the top of the line X lower then the EVO 9 MR.
my 2 cents

Technically they didn't sell that many M5's. Yeah, they sold a lot of e60's but not as much as the previous generation. And many of the previous M5 owners never went out to buy the new e60's M5 because it didn't come in a manual. On top of that the people that bought the new ones always bring it back to the dealer with broken transmissions because that tranny couldn't handle the power.
But needless to say the Evolution X in automatic trim will probably sell.

u have to manually shift to the next gear just like with the old stick method.find two guys in ur area with new vw gtis. one with 6 speed and one with dsg with the same mods. the dsg will rape

also a certain car isnt for people that cant drive stick. i like stick but i also like just cruising. just pressing the gas is nice sometimes when u just wanna get somewhere and not have to climb through ur gears again at every light.
I want a manual like I want live axles, leaf springs, all-steel ladder frame construction, and bias-ply tires.
Sure, a regular slushbox would be horrible in an Evo, but this isn't a regular slushbox. They're claiming it'll be better than VW's awesome DSG.
