Lancer Evolution XI goes hybrid [merge]
i gotta say one thing -
no one should consider it anything special how quick people were able to tune the X. Technology and information have grown exponentially even over the last 5 years, and tuning ideology has been fortified and proven tried and true. more/freer airflow, timing, boost, and boom you've added a crapton more power to the car (for turbos anyway).
what new technology did the X employ in terms of motor? exhaust on the mivec, which doesn't affect tuning significantly.. the ideology is still the same.
Once we have hybrid technology now.. well I'm sure it's going to take a bit longer for tuners to start finding solutions for bigger power - and may even resort to forced induction again as well.

And how they will determine how much power needs to gain on the electric engine to keep up with the other one and so.
But i have a fate in the tuners. Maybe the electric engine will be easier to modify then the gas one. Also i think since the electric engine has far less moving components , it will be more reliable and less service necessary.
that is true, also will be interesting how they can synchronize the two different engine out put on the same drive train.

I do believe that the Evolution is very important to Mitsubishi, and that they probably know better than to mess it up. The fear for me is that there are just too many variables we can't account for now. How much will it weigh? How much will it cost? Will it be tunable? To me, its not enough to be faster than a stock X, because the market for these cars is really, really specialized.
I have never bought a hybrid car, but change is inevitable (no matter how much I resist), so I need to start being less rigid. It 40 years, surely there will be zero emissions cars that run on water vapor and make 500 torque at idle, and we'll remember threads like this and laugh.

I like that you and CleverUserName are both really positive and forward thinking. I was a naysayer against the X before I really learned about it, and I regret that.

I'm usually open minded for the uncharted areas. And as i learned the EVo is some how always got better . Sure it is always something to miss with the previous ones, but still the new generation proved itself.
You can bet on it, i'm too reservedly take the news about going Hybrid.
But hey , the fuel injection system is started somewhere, and sure it was a loooong and biiig fight against it. But as we know today you can hardly buy a carburetor engine.
As i see , too fight against something we don't even know, is really reminds me the medieval times....

it takes a real character, if you miss judge something and you come forward to admit it.
While my gut reaction is to say that I'm not interested in a hybrid Evo, I'm going to try to keep an open mind. That 2013 model is still 3 model years away. A lot can change between now and then. But, I trust Dr. Evo will get this right (whatever form the 2013 ultimately takes ). Under his watch, he has never created an Evo that didn't perform. I don't see how the 2013 would be any different. I expect it to perform and I'm pretty confident it will

I am super interested in this car... Think about it like this - why do we own an evo?
It handles better than most other cars on the road (especially in its price range)
It has a great power plant that works as a fantastic platform to build from
It is fun to drive
So, if this hybrid evo is a reality, and it is powered by a 300hp 4 cyl in the back and an individual electric motor for each front wheel, and has all sorts of new Mitsubishi handling gizmos added in what does that mean?
It means that we could essentially have a car that is rwd biased, has a huge amount of torque on tap for the front wheels, and probably handles better than any previous evo.
The tuning industry has always evolved, look where we'd be if everyone who said fuel injection was a waste of time in 60's won that arguement. Progress is inevitable, embrace it, don't fight it.
I for one don't care if my X has an electric motor, a turbo, no turbo, a fuel cell, or anything else at all.
If it can be tuned, if it is fast, if it handles well, and it looks good, I'm definitely on board.
Hell, how about a fully electric Evo XI? Audi's Etron concept puts out some crazy torque #'s, over 1000wtq - that's insane.
