Mav's 2002 Lancer ES build thread.
recently purchased an '02 Lancer ES. Did some research and decided forced induction is the way to go. since turbos cost money, i am beginning to make a budget plan already. i have seen some people purchase the complete kit from RRM which i am considering, then i have also seen some guys piece together a kit. obviously the scavenging together parts is a cheaper option. is it worth waiting it out and saving longer for the RRM kit? opinions as to results vs. money spent?

Builds take time and money so I've decided to start early and start saving. I think thins thread will be a great way to watch this thing progress and to get some help here and there from everyone.
Bear with me as this will take some time. This is a build as I work and save project so it won't be short. Lots of changes coming over from the Honda world, but I love the idea of building something that everyone else isn't doing.
Plans are definitely forced induction, so I won't be spending too much time/money on N/A stuff. As of right now the car sits stock. I am waiting on wheels (they're on backorder) should be here early August.
I am going at this in a "stage approach" I will post pics of parts as I get them and once I have the entire set-up, I will install and post pics
I'm starting with wheels and suspension;
-Waiting on Konig Daylite wheels 17"x"7 +40mm gold finish and tyres
-Tein S Tech springs
-RRM rotors
That's what I'm shooting at for first stage.
Any opinions/comments, shoot 'em my way
for now, here are some pics of the car as it sits stock (not very exciting i know)
for that new car smell all the time lulz...
and now I wait...hopefully it all goes well.

actually, reading your thread is what made me consider piecing together a kit. only thing i am concerned about is actually getting all the parts. i definitely think piecing a kit together would save an ***-ton of money. it would also be a lot more fun getting the parts and watching the thing grow.
really i'm trying to save money lol.
as far as performance goes, would the RRM kit provide more?
if i do piece it together i'll probably go see those guys to install/tune.

If you piece it together right you will definately save a ton of cash and no the RRM will not provide more performance wise than say the widely popular 16g as I have . Glad my thread is inspiring more people to boost its well worth it man feel free to pm me on any questions

hey thanks a lot a bud, i'll make sure to do that when i need some info. i'm going to ahead and start a build thread pretty soon, not a whole to see yet but i'd like to document and see the progress as i happens......over a lengthly(unfortunately) time period lol

There's currently a RRM kit for sale in the FS threads, I believe. Piecing together your own kit will save you $$$ and allow you full customization and flexibility of your kit. As for going to RRM to have the kit installed, I could see them trying to talk you into one of their kits and saying that your kit won't work or something won't fit. As for reliability, it all depends on how well you research and how many corners you cut. Don't cut any and your kit will be rock solid.

It'll be a couple months before I start gathering parts, after I absorb the cost of wheels, tyres and suspension. That'll give me some time to do some research as well. Looks like most people on here are willing to offer as much help as they can.

I would say 100% on piecing together a kit like stated RRM doesnt have a wonderful track record , and as mentioned it offers a ton of flexibility in what parts you would like to use.
we sell the 4g94 engine to evo 16g turbo manifolds and they are in stock , what that does is allows you to use an evo 8/9 intake,evo 8/9 intercooler,downpipe,lower intercooler piping and upper can all come stock from an evo , or you could use upgraded piping for an evo Pm me if your interested in the 4g94 turbo manifolds.
The 16g with our manifold is the easiest option , next would be totally custom stuff or RRM

rrm is a waste of time and money. ive had problems before and they seemed to care less. definatley go the custom route and just continue to read the threads and make a list is all i can really say.
the rrm kit is proven to fit and work well, but to me the customer service is where it lacks. when i purchased most of my partial kit from them (i had sourced other parts from the evo to work better) the manifold was 4-500 bux(i dont remember for sure) but then about a year and a half on the car all the welds on the collector were cracked and they wouldn do anything about it since i "didnt buy their kit," even though i spent 3k with them that day as well.
