I'm thinking the 9 turbo is probably all around better...and you would be just as happy, but I think there would be fitment issues. I don't know who has a 9, but I know many big vendors sell a "install a 9 turbo on your 8" kits, and you might need at least the compressor outlet from one of those.

Like most said, get what's cheap and in good condition (condition matters more than cheap, but not a lot you can do to tell early on...)

questions heeere haha

if i get an aftermarket evo intake pipe( cause i want the recirurcaltion port) will the maf for my lancer fit onto it?

and if i get evo intercooler piping (aftermarket or not) do i absolutely need the evo intercooler? haha its just cause at the ends of the evo intercooler its not straight, the piping goes down

the part of the maf that goes to the to the intake pipe is the same, its just bigger on the other side...

the factory pipes have a 45 degree coupler that foes to the ic so those would work for an ic that is more designed for the lancer. aftermarket pipes depends just make sure what you got what you need.

so my lancer maf fits on an aftermarket evo intake pipe? what you mean bigger on the other side?

yea but those 45 degree couplers make the piping be lower so i dunno if itll fit the same if i just decide to put the piping on a straight coupler, the piping will be sitting a bit higher i suppose? and thatll be while being installed on a lancer small intercooler with straight ends

what i mean is the size of the maf itself. look at senates maf swap guide and you will see what im talking about.

as for the couplers making it sit lower, thats not the case. the pipes will sit where they sit after they are bolted up to the fram if youre using stcok pipes. a lot of people are running complete stock ic etups from the evo 8/9 and it all fits nicely other than for the factory ic to fit you will have to remove the crash beam.

still missing stuff though. one big pipe your missing is the lower charge pipe after the ic and it looks like you still use some of the factory couplers as well.....

if your going to go turbo stick to the traditional kit unless you do your research then attempt something different. Trust me if you go spending money on parts that won't fit it sucks!!!

^^ exactly.. if u wanna build it urself, do it the right way.. dont sit back and hope u can piece it togeht off someones kit that your modifing

Do alot of research on what others have used, and what u can get your hands on.. otherwise u will be having to look into how someone can fix ur issues, or someone to custom build it for you after you already bought something u thought would work!!!!

trust me i know what im talkin about. im on my 2nd fully custom built setup, and both of my turbo setups have been flawless; definately saved me plenty of time and i didnt have to deal with many hassels.

(and were starting my 3rd setup/major changes shortly, and also another setup im building for my best friends lancer to basically be identical to mine;Yes thats right, there will be another Massive turbo lancer to see the streets, built by me)

Oh trust me, I'm not about going after whats not done....well yet. I just wanted to know what the difference between the 2 was. Once I get some first hand experience with turbo charging before I try something new.

I like that you asked this, some good answers have followed, but just one more point on this. Using your stock MAF not only fits, but it's something you should do. Don't swap the MAF out until you have totally retuned on the stock MAF and are happy with everything. The Evo one will bring on idle issues, and throw one more variable in...so just do like you're thinking with using the stock one.

+1 stick with the stock lancer MAF and just do some adjustments on the scaling and what not, i had to do some serious time, but its finially where i want it at 6-7psi after alot of adjustments!
