I think 300 rpm more isn't that bad. (That's what I think, I'm not a Mitsubishi engine builder and if you raise your Rev limiter, you do it AT your own risk...) I remember the old RRM ecuFlash, before the PiggyBack, They have the Rev limiter increase to arround 6500 rpm. I saw that in an old thread.

I'll not increase it more than what I do. You know, engine builder detuned a lot on the engine to be sure it will live the live of the engine. If I play with AFR and timming, I will shortened the life of my engine too.

I raise it because I hit the rev limiter a lot of time.

You are correct about the old RRM ecu reflashes. I also recall reading about someone saying they talked to a Mitsu technician or engine builder who stated about the internals being balanced enough for 10K RPM's. I don't trust the validity of that statement much, but it might be something to look into. Playing with the AFR and timing might actually lengthen the life of the engine. Considering our ECUs run extremely rich at times. Even the new 350z ECUs run an AFR of around 10.5 from 5K to redline.

WOW...that is a lot of reading.

Most likely I am getting the stage 2 intake kit from A2 designs very soon so I will be going down the route of tuning as well.

Out of curiosity, anyone start to tune an 02 OZ Rally with Auto Tranny? If not I guess I'll be the first to start doing this but it won't happen for a couple of months cause I still gotta order and install.

it was probably me who said that... i dont know if it was 10k but the tech told me the motor has at least another 1k in it. They got a lancer in there with a fuxured rod and either the throttle got stuck on accident or on purpose and he said it continully bounced off of the rev limitter for mins until it trashed the rod the rest of the way. Boom!

also have you all thought that your reflash might be removing the ecu recall that you all went in for... You all shouldnt effect the ecu recall based on what the tech told me that it did... but just something to think about when you are messing with the middle of you curve.

I'm not sure if there is an 04 yet that has played with it. You'd be the first that I know of. There is an 04 Lancer def file, so try that out and see if it works.

I got the ECUFlash installed and the cable too, but I am following the instructions on the beginners thing by the evo owner and I can't find my rom when everythings connected and I click on Open ROM. So when I click read from ECU to try that, the Lancer non-evo isnt listed. Might I have DLed the wrong thing?

After clicking "Read from ECU" choose EVO VIII to read the ECU ROM.

Yeah, choose the "3rd Generation EVO 8" or something like that.

Not to help anyone blow up anything but the Old REFLASH from RRM had the rev limit raised to 6900 rpm.

I don't believe they ever really tuned past the stock rev limit point as when it was dyno'd you saw the power drop off considerably after 6K rpm and they stopped the real pull around 6200rpm.

So what ever you do make sure you tune the new rpm range in once you extend the rev limit.

FOr the record when I spoke to other tuners they said they would not take the rev limit past 6750rpm.

No one has any concrete numbers as to the improvements made from tuning? HP or 1/4 mile times, anything?
