Cool... you have the cable already? Hopefully wickdaddy's definition file will work for you, because it can sure be a pain in the butt to get one made for your cars ROM. I'm relying on Z_Lancer to come through for me, since the OpenECU forums seem to be dead, and nobody in the EVO ECUFlash forum has responded either. It's just like everything, when it comes to tuning our cars, you gotta do it all yourself, or at least have stand-up guys in good places like Z_Lancer. Good luck!! And... be careful!

Update:
One of the guys on OpenECU.org helped me get a definition file going and now I'm able to edit my map perfectly.
Z_Lancer: Maybe you'd like to add this information to the first post:
- Video illustrating how to copy your cars ROM onto a laptop (ignore the emailing to jester tuning part) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AigoMPNtqAA
- Here's a link to a thread over on OpenECU.org that has all the current ROMs and their associated XML files. The first 2 posts in that thread have the download links, but I think you need to be registered before they become available. My current ROM and XML has not been added yet, but the author of the posting is the guy that made the definition file for me, so it should be there eventually. http://forums.openecu.org/viewtopic.php?t=925

Give them a call and ask.. they are very helpful and if you get their voicemail, just leave a message. Overall however, the Evo 9 guys are using the same cable, so I can probably say with about 99% certainty that the cable will work for your car as well.

Z_Lancer or anyone else experienced:
I took some data logged pulls today.. 3rd and 4th gear.. Can someone look them over, or play them back in EVOScan and give me some feedback? One thing you will notice is that my 4th gear REALLY doesn't want to redline! LOL...
Thanks.

Okay, I just looked over all 4 of your logs. From the 3rd gear pull w/ 87, as expected you're getting a lot of knock, so your timing is being pulled and you're losing power. The 3rd gear pull with 91 greatly reduced the knock as it should. However, the 4th gear pull with 91 is getting higher knock counts as you'd expect since 4th gear puts more load on the car.
Do you have a wideband? I noticed that the wideband column was empty on all your pulls. You really need to get a wideband if you want to start tuning. Once you get that, then you can start adjusting the fuel and timing maps for those load cells where you are getting that knock and reduce them to zero if possible. Good luck!

Thanks a ton for looking them over. The AEM wideband is enroute, so hopefully I'll have that and installed within the next week or two. I was finding it really weird that the car would have knock on a stock OEM tune, but I guess that's just par for the course hey?
Umm... I'm not sure how you can explain it to me well using text, but is there either way of showing me how to isolate exactly what cells to modify? For instance, edit the picture of my stock fuel maps in comparison to one of the data logged pulls and draw a line in MS Paint to a cell which corresponds to a particular point in the data log? I ask this because, where the full pull is done at WOT, I was kinda figuring that it'd be really hard to tune the low-load zones, since pretty much all of them would be around 100% load? I'll take a few new screen shots of the fuel and ignition maps just so they're a little clearer as well.
Also, do you think that tuning in 3rd gear will be fine, or should I continue to do my logging in 4th for clearer results?
Thanks for your help!

Z_Lancer: I just emailed you my ROM and def files... but upon re-reading the last 2 posts, I think you were asking lancerrally45 to send his... so, if that's the case, you can disregard the email.. lol!
As said in the email however, a little help with exactly what consitutes the load %, and what driving conditions will activate which fuel map cells would be appreciated. For example, when doing a 3rd gear pull from 2000 RPM - 6000 RPM at WOT, which cells are activated?
Thanks for your help! Hopefully I'll be well-versed enough to help you answer peoples questions about all this soon!
