He's talking about tuning the ECU load values past 100. With Evo's the ECU load is configured up to 260 with the turbo. They even extrapolate the values to read up to 300 ECU load. What type of load is the ECU reading with a turbo? If it's over 100 we can't tune for that without extrapolating the values past 100. And since there are only 10 or so points of tuning there might be difficult to tune. Instead of having the 10 points be 10, 20, 30, 40, etc. we would have to make them 10, 20, 40, 60, 80, etc. to get the values slightly over 100 to allow for tuning.

This is well put, but doesn't apply to the base Lancers. It is physically impossible for our Lancer (engine and ECU) to read higher than 100 load. Now obviously I don't mean that a turbo'd engine isnt' capable of producing more load because obviously it does. What I mean is that the way our engine calculates load is different that the way the EVO calculated load. Because the EVO is turbo'd from the factory, their ECU and calculations have two regimes: vacuum and boost. The car knows when there is boost and therefore adjusts accordingly. Our car cannot distinguish the two. It hits full load under both conditions. This is the reason for my post earlier about revving the car to 5000k RPMs when not on boost and the car saw the same amount of load as I did with full boost. Since fuel demands are much greater under boost, the maps were adjusted, but therefore when I hit the same load cell under vacuum, where fuel need is less, the engine got too much fuel and limped out.

I realize this really isn't what you are addressing Senate, but I wanted to reiterate to everyone reading this that our Lancer's ECU cannot accurately handle all load conditions introduced when we turbo our car. It's for this reason that sacrifices must be made. You either tune well for ON boost or OFF, but you can't do both; one must be sacrificed. Therefore, if you are serious about extracting the MAX power and drivability out of your turbo'd Lancer, you must replace the ECU with a ful standalone, or with an ECU and corresponding sensors capable of accounting for vacuum and boost driving.

It is for this reason that I've lost some interest in tuning my Lancer. I have some ideas that may work without having to "invest" in an AEM EMS or a minisquirt, but I won't say anything until I know for sure if it works.

ok, so how did you end up tuning your ecu? ON boost or OFF?

I tuned for ON boost since this is the most vital/dangerous condition for the engine.

Exacly what I'm thinking. I know the Evo has a few more sensors, but in the event of a turboed Lancer, those sensors would most likely be befinical*sp?*.

In the Honda world, we wire and rewire some sensors. Some stock ones, and some add on. I don't see why we couldn't achieve the same thing on a Lancer.

BTW, this is a very long thread. Would someone be able to summarize it in a new thread so noobies can get the answer to most of their questions without going through 620 posts?

What the software is
What is needed to run it
What to do once the hardware and software have been acquired and stuff like that.

That'd be great

That's a very viable solution, but I'm afraid the thread might contain too many opinions and not enough facts. Sorry if I'm wrong. Hence why it'd be nice if we had a compilation of the facts in a seperate thread

(i dont wanna go kaboom) itd be nice to run 7psi. can i do that with stock injectors or do i need something bigger (rc 370"s off of ebay)?.
another thing im wondering about is since i got the fpr, do i even need an fmu? doesnt it do the same thing?

you think that rc 440 injectors will fit in my car just like the wrx injectors?
