Old News!! 4G64 Swapped Into A 2002 Lancer
Well Jehuty, I am now officially into a place now (albeit it is in Orlando and nowhere close to you) so I'll be working on the car again (first time in MONTHS) to finish the swap. I'll let you know when I will be working on it (I'm off Fr / Sa) so if you want to come by, you can. It'll be a long drive for you (I'm on Dean Road between 50 and University) but I'm gonna try to finish it ASAP and you are welcome to stop by.
Why wouldn't you want to swap to a manual? If you're going to go to all of the trouble of swaping the engine for a gain of maybe 20-30hp (stock), wouldn't you want to have better control of those horses? Granted, it's probably a much more mod friendly engine, but you could do better without the extra weight of the auto and the fact that manual trans would make it more of a driver's car and so much more enjoyable. Switching to manual is half the reason I am considering a swap someday. I love the tossability of my car but miss manual gear selection. That's saying alot when the last car I had with manual trans was a 1985 Nissan Sentra hatchback (think base model underpowered AE85 Corolla Levin hatch, but with FWD and it was a Nissan rather than Toyota). That car was much more weak than my Lancer was (even stock) and I could still honestly say that I miss the way I could downshift around corners in that turd of a Sentra. I say swap to manual and if you're afraid of destroying your newly aquired 4G64's clutch while learning, use someone else's (rent a car).
One more thing. I read somewhere here, that an auto to manual conversion isn't anywhere close in performance and feel to one that was factory manual. Thoughts anyone?

Well, like I said, if one of you can convince me that its worth it/ cost effective, I'll reconsider it. But the truth is I gotta import the engine and BOTH trannys. That's a whole lotta money I don't have. And I'm only shooting for 250hp (just sounds like a fun number). I'm only looking for the cheapest, yet effective way to get there. Who knows, I'm suppose to be moving to NC in a couple of years, maybe things will look better then. For now I'm just beefing up/ redoing my suspension while doing homework on this swap
.

honestly, for you RIGHT NOW, this swap probably isnt the best route...but you say ur coming back to the states..so just stick to your plan...build up suspension and once you get here...swap away!
oh, and someone asked about how to swap out tranny internals...DONT! haha...
honestly, unless your THAT mechanically inclined...SEND IT TO A SHOP to swap out the internals. all you will need i a new seal and the 2 trannys and about 200 bucks (average labor-time on the swap...like 2-4 hours). its relatively easy, but SO MUCH can go wrong. Oh and YES...if you're going thru all of that convert to a manual trans...i still have my Lancers ecu if anyone needs/wants it...

Oh ok, gotcha, I was confused as hell, not only was I stumped with the tranny swap, but ur ecu thing threw me off completely. I Was about to buy an Inline 6 ecu >.> okay, I'm not that retarded, lol, I was kidding
I know I will get lambasted for this but, I swear I have seen (maybe it was on rpw's site) that you can put the V6 from the Galant into the lancer. We used to have a Galant with a V6 and that thing hauled. I would like that back hahaha. The hauling that is. Any knowledgeable postings on this please, if it would cost less than a turbo I am in.

I don't think any engine swap, after all the labor and parts you need, a turbo will always be cheaper and more straight foward, not to mention easy enough to do it in your own garage with basic tools.

Some cars lend themselves to swapping. You can yank a Subaru motor and have a new one in by lunchtime. Every Subaru mounted the engine the exact same way. Every Subaru engine is shaped exactly the same. Etc.
Hondas are also famous for swaps.
on the other hand, is not famous for swaps. All the motors are different, they're all placed in the car differently, etc. It's just not as user-friendly to swap.
Ugh, grats everyone, we have officially bought a car that is utterly crappy, lol. Only the Evo can really pull it off, not swap wise, but in performance, so we need to get one. Quick! Everyone get their PhD! And we will all buy Evo's
