Old News!! 4G64 Swapped Into A 2002 Lancer
Well, certainly not a drop in, but it can be done, and i think the use of the g64 bell with lancer gears would make things much easier, if its comparable to a rrm turbo kit in cost, then this would be the way to go, i for one am going to research this a bit more and see what possible problems i can find.
It's about as close to drop in as we're going to get (well, besides swapping in another 4G9x family engine). The swap seems really straightforward.
We just need to research the differences between the 4G64 and the Evo 4G63. Because of the successful 4G64 swap, we already know how to do the mounts, transmission, etc. Now it's down to just figuring out the little differences and determining whether they will affect the swap and how.
Edit: Maybe it's time we start a new thread. We've kind of strayed away from the 4G64 swap

Bottom line is that if you start a new thread, it'll just be rampant speculation and wild-***-guesses. Until someone else DOES a swap, there's no real need for another thread.
Ain't it the truth my Canadian friend, sometimes I have no clue why mitsubishi makes their engines so different between each other. Back to the situation at hand, we will see, I'm sure someone is doin the swap as we speak, my only other problem is what we had been discussing before, swapping an evo engine, and only have FWD, is gonna damper the true possibilities
dude, they were talking about the rampant speculation of 4G63 swapping that has taken over this 4G64 swap thread. And while I'd once read mention of a 4G63 swap being done, I also remember reading that it had a crazy pricetag, and such massive reliability issues that the project was scrapped(though it was a racing application, non-racers may have better reliability). Therefore there has been no completely successful 4G63 swap. Taking that post out of context, I can see your frustration, but reading the posts above it explains that it was not bringing down the 4G64 swap at all.
EDIT: To anyone planning a 4G63 swap, good luck, I hope it all works out well. I know several countries did get a non-turbo 4G63 in Lancer Cedias, a swap wouldn't be out of the question, just expensive.
EDIT 2: Actually, This is why there's no need for a new thread about 4G63 swaps.

sorry for the loooong absense...
i see that there are some questions that are still being asked...allow me to enlighten you (sorry for not being more clear about this).
If you have any other questions on this, please feel free to ask...
Ok,
1st. Yes you can Mate the G64 w/ the G63 head (evo guys are doing it alot lately) and NO its not a direct swap for this. WHAT IS a direct swap is the G64 into the Lancer (albeit one -passenger side- motor mount).
2nd. The only noticable damage was a SLIGHT fade in my CF hood because of the few millimeters in hight from the G64...BUT that could all be from a car accident that had my hood redone (it was a rare CF hood) and it wasnt "exactly" even afterwards. But the fade was in/around the oil cap area an was limited to that area only.
3rdly. When you get a G64 tranny, you will ONLY NEED THE BELL HOUSING AND THE CLUTCH MASTER SLAVE CYLINDER. ALL ELSE FROM THE LANCER'S TRANNY ARE COMPLETELY SWAPABLE (I thought I mentioned that before).
4th. The aftermarket support is there. I only had to DIY a CAI. You can use an SRI, just not the RRM one because all they give you is an adapter for your big K&N air filter (included also). You will need and elbow that is around 80 degrees or so. Or you can just get the Fujita or Injen SRI's I suppose. I made my own because I didnt have the time to hit up companies for a custom one that I could (and did) make myself (pics below).

as far as turbo support...ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!?!?! What ever is made for the Evo is now at your disposal. I know FOR A FACT that the STOCK evo manifold BOLTS RIGHT UP! (I still have mine)
where are you guys looking for aftermarket stuff? Because there's plenty of places that support the G64 let alone the G63!
www.prostreetonline.com www.slowboyracing.com www.rnrracing.com www.roadraceENGINEERING.com www.tearstone.com www.rpw.com.au
I can go on and on...
The G64 is made out of a cast IRON block, and yes, it'll take the abuse!
from the swap ALONE i gained (aprox) +27 WHP...over the stock G94. After all the bolt ons I was somewhere around 165-170ish WHP (untuned). That CAI was fab'd up in my house using an Injen CAI thats made FOR the Lancer. The chrome looking "couplings" that I used (the blue ones are actual AUTOMOTIVE rubber couplings) were purchased at HOME DEPOT. They are for plumbing but hold out air just aswell. I could just as easily went to Pep Boys and got that "make your own intake" outta plastic parts, but I wasnt about to trust THEM now after all this was done to my car.
5th. If you just want to swap in a G63...ITS NOT WORTH IT! Plus by doing this AND mating the G63 head to the G64 block, you WILL put out more HP than an evo...considering that the evo owner hasnt just dropped in a 2.3 stroker + another 2 grand or so...
Let me re-read the posts that have been made since my last post and try to answer some more questions

Thanx for the clarifications, lol, do you see quite the commotion you have caused for the past 14 pages?! Where have you been to discontinue this uproar? Thx for clarification on all of this, I was on the verge of doing a g63 swap, had the salvaged evo and everything, BUT, to save bucks, and time, I will do this direct swap of an engine, thx again. By the way, exhaust and headers? watsup with them, they have to be custom?
