Old News!! 4G64 Swapped Into A 2002 Lancer
OK so let me get this straight. I could take the 4g64 out of an eclipse and put it in my lancer(of course i made it sound really easy). then I would also use that tranny and just tear it open and put the gears from my tranny into the eclipse tranny. I THINK thats correct. Well here is my question. I am sick of my engine spooling at 3000RPMs while crusing at bout 70 on the interstate and sucking in gas like a champ. What if i kept the gears from the eclipse? would that just make it a lot more complicated?
Just for clarification purposes, the 1999+ Galants didnt come in manual so that is why you are not seeing them in manual. You would have to source the Eclipse. And the cranks for the autos and manuals are appareantly different from what I saw about 4 years ago when I was going to do this swap.
The route I was told by the guy who did the swap in a Mirage about 5 or 6 years ago and by a close tuner friend from Titan Motorsports is to try to get everything from one motor to make it easier. If you try to mix and match a Galant engine with the Eclipse tranny, it's not a simple plug and play as it would be if you got the entire Eclipse engine and tranny.

why are you worrying about the cranks? if you're swapping this motor the SMART thing to do (since you HAVE TO swap trannys too) is to convert to manual trans. and you CAN interchange parts (ie. trans and motors) from a stratus/galant/eclipse...u might HAVE TO aswell BECAUSE the galant and stratus didnt come in a 5 speed. although it IS easier to get all u need from one car, the likelyhood of you ACTUALLY getting a complete donor car is slim UNLESS you buy the whole car from a wrecking yard or an auction, but then there goes your cost effectivness out the window. and actually...IT IS plug and play. the way your friend told you was the LOOOOONG and WROOOONG way to do the swap...let me guess, he is/was apart of A2 Designs (i believe thats the shop on the mirage forums)...the shot that said YOU HAD TO swap out your axels and spend a REDICULOUS amount of money for their "custom" axel set up. even if you got a complete donor car...the tranny STILL needs to undergo surgery. I sent email after email to A2 and they/he N E V E R got back to me. im not raggin on you, but i HAVE DONE this swap. i KNOW what is needed. ive bumped my head enough times against the wall to know whats up. you can throw all the BIG names out there and say how long it took them to THINK about doing this but it still doesnt change the FACT that 1. i (well, not me by myself) did this in 5 months TOTAL time (R&D, planning, labor) spending no more than your most BASIC turbo kit. 2. im not some big company...im ur above average guy (lol) that goes for what he knows.

"spooling"? are you turbo'd? cuz if you are then that sounds more like a tuning question rather than a motor swap question. if you kept the gears from an eclipse you would end up spending WAY more money than u would want, have a 5 lug in the front and 4 lug in the back (as far as wheels go) and kill yourself wishing you woulda just swapped out the internals.

the 2.4's tranny gears are the SAME as the lancer's tranny EXCEPT for the 5th gear and final drive...
See, the tranny is what has me worried, I'm sure the engine is fairly simple, or at least as simple as engine swaps go, and I can get a salvaged eclipse for about 900 bucks, so I can get everything, but I'm just worried about how do I do the tranny swap. Rpm....u need to move to Florida, lmao
I believe that the years that he has given us are the only compatible ones, like the 99-03 Galants, the 00-05 Eclipse, the Stratus is the one I'm not sure about, but I do believe that it's okay as long as it's SXT
There's no way, a mirage gets 97WHP with an 1.8... there's no way u are only getting 108WHP with a 2.4L... I'd get it checked. There's probably something wrong with ur engine.
Nope nothing wrong with the engine(2004 only 24,000 miles), that engine isnt all that strong NA, now when u boost it, there is the potential, check out club3g.com for all our 3g woes with NA engine power. I never said it was what my engine dynoed stock it was an average number

Stock that engine is only rated at 147hp to the crank, now take into the loss from powertrain and all the other parasitic losses, highest peak on there was 111.4WHP (my car would be a few horses less being auto).
