Where did you go to purchase the motor, and does the evo head fit on the motor? This is a damn awesome undertaking, especially if we can match up with evo's, because OZ's are so much more lighter, lol.

so how did u make this custom motor mount again? did the shop do it or did u? did u make it from scratch?

and i searched "4G64 Swap" in Google. and i found this engine. is this it? it's a 1994 Galant 2.0 L DOHC. do i need a 2.4L SOHC? or should i just swap the 4G63 head

also, could you get a evo 8 tranny with 6spd and LSD?

or am i making no sense at all and i should be flamed

Thanks, im a newb to motor swaps so dont hate me

well from what ive been reading over the last few days the 00-05 eclipse and galant (around the same year) is the better way to go . as far as swapping the head out with a evo head, its a bolt on thing. but as far as the tranny goes no go on the evo tranny from what i see . but i could be wrong since the evo guys do use the 4g64 block. so maybe ... i would just use the eclipse tranny and swap out gears . which makes me think ... could we use the ra tranny gears instead of the stock lancer (es,ls,oz) gears. cause the axles and everything should just bolt up right. alot to think bout . but i cant what to see the face of some people here in austin after i'm done

sorry i have neglected this for such a long time.
the motor ount that needs to be made (and a shop made and installed it - NOT ME) is the one on the passenger side by the cam gear. only costs like 60-80 dollars on average.

as for the motor...yes...it has to be 2.4L 4G64 NOT THE 2.0L.
so thats the one from the 2000 and up cars (stratus SXT, eclipse GS/RS-- come on guys...ALL the info is on the first page).

when i bought the motor they CLAIMED it only had about 65K on it.

and as for the G63 head swap...THAT was my plan. its a lil more than just a simple bolt on though. not too difficult, but not as simple as just "BOLTING ON".

and i believe that the RA axels are different than the OZ/ES/LS. dont quote me...but i THINK that they are. And as for all the accessories...
u will need the COMPLETE motor (4G64) for this swap. I kept all of my original AC system though (lines, compressor, etc.) so thats about the only thing that doesnt need to come with the G64 motor.
Just get an 1998 Spyder ECU. It's 4g64 and came before the Immobilizer was put in the cars. It'll save u so much trouble.
i dont know about that. i believe the ecu's/harness' in the second gen eclipse's change in the 3rd gen.

You should search around to see about the compatibilty of parts between generations.

Long version: searchign would show you that there is a difference between the head flanges for the 4G6x and the 4G9x motors. This is why 4G9x's cannot use the 4G6x's turbo manifolds.

Short version: no.

1. No.
2. y would you want to? I know Rob, GREAT guy, but the 4G64 is an ECLIPSE motor.
there is a WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY bigger after market support for that motor
than the Lancer's 4G94. Continue to think outside the box.

i love this thread, I am not sure what to do anymore, I want an evo, but money for that, and not to mention insurance, since I'm only 18, I want to do the manual conversion also, bcuz I'm running an auto right now, and I'm not loving it, great car, but I need the manual. So I'm looking for a manual transmission, but from what I've heard manual galant trannies are a lil rare to come by, so I'm still searching

if anyone is interested in swapping an evo viii head on to a 4g64 bottom end there is an excellent write up of the parts you will need on club3g.com (see link)

DOHC Conversion

I have a 4g64 eclipse and I have spent about 3 months collecting parts off of here, only having to order a handful of gaskets and random parts from a Mitsubishi dealership. My car goes in to the shop Monday the 23rd, and I will be documenting it on that site once it is all done.

I'm no expert on the subject, everything I know about it comes through 6 months of reading articles about it on the computer. Just about every question you can have has been already answered somewhere on club3g (its a hot topic) you just gotta search for it.

yeah think out side the box..!! it will cost you some $$.. but in the end the satisfaction is unparalell!!

rpm.. i decided to do a 1st gen 4G63 swap (RWD!!!)... just cuz i know a 1G can lay down some crazy #'s. But i know the g64 head with a stroker is also a sick *** combo.

if anyone is thinking about swapping with a G63... make sure u Buy a 1st gen motor.. the 2g's are prone to "Crank Walk"
