Old News!! 4G64 Swapped Into A 2002 Lancer
i spoke with the owner of this car about this issue.. cuz right now im auto. he said.. you need the bell housing from the 4g64... and you take the gears out of the lancer's auto tranny... and slap it right into the g64's tranny... DIRECT FIT!... and you just do the install just like he instructs..... im definitely doing this swap but im debating wether to do auto tranny or manny.......

i decided today to just keep it auto...it will be much less of a headache money wise... (i'm flipping a house right now) and i'll get the car back on the road faster. i'll be able to just concentrate on boosting & tuning the 4g64... i want to see what it can do if it is stroked
I just bought a '03 lancer service manual and an 03 eclipse service manual on ebay....... 15$ total................ with my next check i'll buy the ECU...
if ur budget is limited... buy the most inexpensive stuff 1st. then work your way up
remember: www.car-part.com and ebay is your #1 friend!

IF you get an ECU from another car, but don't have the VIN, each eCU has a serial # that can allow a Mitsu dealer to make a immobiler key that will work. The S# should be on the ECU.
You can't just walk in with somebody else's VIN and have a key made without showing proof of ownership, or shouldn't be able to. Even if they do it, you'll just have a door key, because the new key has to be programmed to the ECU - so in other words the car would have to be there as well.

it starts at the ignition. there is a copper wired ring (encased in a black plastic) that is the immobilizing units "antannae" and sends the signal from the chip in the key to the actual immobilizer unit...there is a series of long wires (3 i believe-if i recall correctly) that go from the steering colum to the unit. the unit itself is a small box that is located somewhere behind the center consol and the passengers side dash board. the immobilizing unit in turn has a wire that connects to the ECU and tells the ECU to go ahead and STAY on. w/o the unit, your car WILL start, but only for 10-20 seconds.
sorry i havent been around much lately...
just been going through some things.
GOOD LUCK to all who undertake this swap!
i will also be selling the Crower Cam Shafts on here soon for those that have
this motor!
Actually the Immobilizer check CAN be disabled in the ECU, as far as I know a few of the 3G Eclipse guys have been runing Evo ECU's with it disabled. There was someone trying to sell people a service which did this, but in reality, its just a flag in the rom. Its not very widely discussed because its an anti-theft feature your disabling.
Also, not all roms have the vehicle VIN# 2003's dont, early 2004 doesnt, 2005 does.. However we haven't isolated where the Vin# data is stored, and all 2002-2005 Evo ECU's can use roms from different years as long as (on the EVO, the rom is matched to the Year of the car)

ok ok i know you been talking about this already but i got some questions about the swap. i want to do the swap once i get back from iraq but i am kinda worried about the whole immoblizer thing and ecu thing. do you have to use the same immobilzer from the car you took the ecu from or how does that work. i was wondering about the performance upgrades well they be able to fit the engine compartment or are the going to have to be custom. the i just want to make sure because i was going to get the rrm turbo for my car. but i was thinking if i go ahead and do this swap if i decide go turbo after i do it i well see better hp gains instead of the gains the turbo will give my 2.0 engine now. i got plenty of time to do more research not coming home for another 8months so.
I've said this a dozen times already, if you do your research, the Immobilizer *CAN BE DISABLED IN THE ROM* so you don't need to worry about it. Its just not widely discussed in this forum.
The ECU was designed to be flexible, so was the Rom that it uses, there are quite a few cars running the same ECU and variant of the Roms that all share almost the same code, many of them do not have an Immobilizer.

actually...i got it for 350!!
\and the motor was flawless!! compression held at 200!!
i STRONGLY suggest that you guys get the motor from an AUTOMATIC car, that way u can be a lil more at ease about the motors past use.

ok well im thinking bout doing this swap 1st before i boost. i'm keeping the auto tranny since its my wife car.for that its just a swap of the gears and stuff into the casing of the 4g64 tranny from what ive read. now as for the mounts i know you said you need a custom mount. which one and to add to that can you just use the stock mounts for that motor . sorry if you covered that but it feel like ive been readin alot and i dont remember as for the ac and power steering does that all carry over to the 4g64 as far bokt on goes . i really want to do this before i start working on my rx7 (more $$$) so thanks for any help
