Yes, THIS is technical discussion. Thank you.
Can RRM make a high flow air filter, just to drop in the box.. that way we cant void our warranties! YAY!

Doubt it. RRM has never done a panel filter. They always do a whole different intake. But I'm sure as time goes by, there will be options from other companies like K&N and such. Mostly it will depend on customer demand and if any other cars (like the Evo X) share the same size filter.

What i mean by a ram air box is like on the camaro ss and trans am ws6, it is a collector for cold air to gather before the intake sucks it in... in our case i think it would actually work like a heat shield... and by that i mean it would force cold air around the air intake, forcing hot air back towards the exhaust manifold, at least in theory. a heat shield in this application might work as a heat collector due to its placement in the engine bay.

SHEEP, unfortunately all i can do is speculate because i have no way to test any of my theories out, but let me tell you, I'm a genius in my own mind and thats all that counts lol

Panels seem to never yeild any real power. I think it is a waste really.

okay uhh.. I dunno about those OEM systems

but RAM AIR.. is a direct duct to air outside the engine bay (colder .. unless your somewhere stupid hot and well.. you just go cry!) .. that duct completely encloses the filter. it's a cold air intake.. and at speed the air is forced (aka RAMMED) into the intake/filter/engine

in less complicated terms.. it's a tube usually to the hood or nose, that is connected to a box around the filter air doesn't go anywhere else but directly down the intake tract.

that stuff mentioned above if it isn't sealed into the intake tract basically just acts like a real fancy cold air and a parachute on the nose of your car.

if RRM isn't in teh works to make a RAM air kit to link the scoop of their hood to the SRI intake... I'll just have to make my own

I wouldn't think that somehow enclosing the SRI filter in the stock airbox would help much, I thought the whole point of a short ram intake was that the engine didn't have to suck the air through so much tubing, combined with a higher flowing filter. If you put the box back on it'll have to pull air through that smaller diameter plastic tube.

Myself, I'm just gonna get some sheet metal, bend in a curved "L" shape, and mount it to block some heat from the manifold and tranny. Don't know if it will help much, but it cant hurt.

i understand it wouldnt be a real ram air box, and i am not saying that you would totally enclose the SRI, i am suggesting that since the stock tubing is in place and already bringing outside air into the engine compartment, would it help and is it possible to use just the half of the stock airbox that connects to the tubing to direct air into the SRI, helping promote a cooler air intake

oh - well that might not be too bad, could be a problem mounting the box since the SRI uses its bolthole, plus i think the filter sits too low to line up with box's stock position. and the more i think about it, i'm starting to think that using a heat shield or half the air box wouldnt be worth the hassle, just so much heat at that spot in the engine bay only a true CAI could show any power gains. even then may not be more than the SRI. but I'm no engineer, so...
