well I was tould by many people who are just throwing stuff out there that it could add any where from 3-10 but I dont think it adds 10hp either I assume 3-5 more but who know, I have the intake and I am happy that all that maters.

Here's the limiting factor for the lancer, it's a lancer. It wasn't designed to be a performance car and thus it's already starting with a handicap in that sense. The cams aren't aggressive, the head isn't aggressive, it doesn't have a highly adaptive ECU (ie. it can't in stock form take advantage of higher octane or bolt-ons), etc. Displacement is part of it (obviously a bigger motor can use more air) but it's namely just the nature of the car itself. Moreover, with the advanced nature of today's computers, bolt-ons are simply becoming less and less popular because without a good tune (a pricey mod) they're useless. This is why people are noticing less than ideal returns for rather large investments, you can have all the bolt-ons in the world but without a tune, the car can't use them effectively. I would wager that a tune would be the best mod out there short of a turbo and any other mods would serve simply to expand the tuning ability slightly. Hell I want a tune on my car.

I know the price is high and you probably already know about them, but for a Subaru, I would think that COBB would be the way to go, either for single parts or power packages. They also do stuff for the Evo family as well.

They have tuning divices (software, and eqiupment) that you can get without having to buy a whole package. Well, actualy that is one of thier packages.

I think that in order to make the Lancer a front runner, boosted is the perferd method, but I would love to see some crazy hp NA motor. I have no idea why I am into that but we tried it on a 3 and a focus (same motors) and they where NUTS! They both hit 270 hp but that was a lot of work and stupid amounts of cash. B&B motor, PNP head, pro cams, high compression pistons, custom intake manifold, custom 4-2-1 header, 3 in straight through exhaust, and so on! I just love the way they sounded! Like no other high hp I4! It was like having half a monster truck under the hood!

COBB is overrated in my opinion, their off the shelf maps are prone to knocking, the Accessport itself has version problems and their exhausts seem to be either really high quality or fall apart in 6 months bad. I'm sure a high HP NA lancer is possible but considering how similar the motor is to the evos (at least the 2.0 version), it doesn't seem to be the best route for people who simply want more power rather than bragging rights.

cant be serious? haha. but if u are - that's pretty sweet! Cause 10hp is a great gain from only a SRI. I'd have to see the dyno to believe it :P not that i'm callin folks liars

I think you're just overly idealistic. You describe monster buildups, but how many people will really do that? The average tuner spends $180 on an intake and hopes for the best. And he/she usually doesn't get much bang for that buck.

Yeah, I'd personally be interested in seeing that dyno sheet as well. From owning the intake, I do agree that it gives a very noticeable gain. But it's always great to see proof.

Oh no, I don't mean for the average tuner to do this. Just nice to see versitility in a motor. One that can go both ways, so to speak!

I think the GTS would be great as a 180 or 200 hp daily driver. I would rather it perform in the Civic Si range with out getting boosted. Not a 300+ hp NA monster though! I was just describing the route that we went with thoes cars.

I think 180 or 200 hp is atainable, but at what cost? Like you guys said, the responce of this motor to bolt-ons is still unknown as of yet. When everything is out, the best start parts would prob be, intake, header, exhaust, cams, and TUNING!

I saw on Speed Corps that Injen has a complete cold air intake, granted its $300+. Has anyone heard about what it can do? Looks ok and solves the hot air next to the header issue that some people have with RRMs but at double the price. Also looks like a pain in the **** to install or clean/change the filter.

I think for 200 hp, you'd need to get into serious head and block work, mainly aggressive cams and supporting mods to allow for a high rev range and high compression pistons to take advantage of it.

People should not expect much from bolt ons to start with. It is clear that to get some serious (respectable) power gain on a 4 cyl NA engine you need a professional tune and parts which is EXPENSIVE. And would the average guy do that? No, because if he had that kind of money he would have bought a better car to start with (not that the lancer is bad, I mean more sporty). So it's either do proffessional tuning and expect to spend a lot of money, or buy the bolt ons (which aren't so cheap either) and don't expect a good gain but just a little more response and aggression on your butt dyno (the main function of that is to make the owner feel better about the money spent )

Edit:
PS. I got tired from typing. I wonder how RC2099 types those posts, lol.

It would be a lot of work. I would have just gotten the Evo X if I really wanted the crazy power. Gonna spend about the same with parts, labor, tunning, and lets face it, things break when you do a custom build.

20K and build a 200 hp NA motor, or 5 to 7K and just boost it? Financialy, I would go with boost. Not gonna save on gas with the NA route either. Its needs premium too and burns more of it!

Still want to know about the Injen Complete Cold Air. Would wraping the header help with the RRM intake?

Amby, does anyone even have a tunning project for the 08 Lancer yet?
Do you thing the bigger motor the 09s are rumored to get will respond better?

You think my post are long? You should see some from the tC and Mazda 3 forums. I have seen some that could easily been a novel installment. It was the Star Wars or National Geographic set of why " turbos are better than super charges" and why " top mount intercoolers are better than front mount"! I remember that 1 page was 1 posting from this guy. Page 35 a bounch of people, page 36, his posting, page 37 more people! Plus, I'm not working on my car so I have to much time on my hands.

Besides, I could write a short story about two Mods that OWNED me in this thread keept me from being a rambling uninformed retarded ****! Also known as a dink! lol

Heck, you could prob start a new area called, "Don't Be A Retard Tech"! In this are you can learn "DIY" installs like inteligance, common sense, and brain mouth filters. You can also give feed back on how helpful these mods are making people in the forums!

I don't think anyone has any official tuning project yet but I think WORKS is getting a reflash ready. The larger motor should respond better simply because it's larger but who knows.

It changes the ignition timing and the injector cycles to optimize the map.

Wow, thats a lot less involved than a custom tune.

Thanks!
