Does the Focus RS comes without a Spare tire? If the Evo x (fat pig) jettisoned its spare the weights would be pretty close between the two.

Competition is good. I'm also of the vew that Subaru can take back the lead fairly easily.

Focus RS power/weight ratio: .0978
Golf R power/weight ratio: .0909

I see some people still aren't using logic in this thread

Focus RS 3410 lbs. http://www.evo.co.uk/ford/focus-rs
Golf R 3283 lbs. http://media.vw.com/doc/1342/16639762254eb40c8bd4a5.pdf

Since they have nearly identical dimensions, why is the Ford 127 lbs. more?

Why do you care? This question is almost full retard.

"Why do two different cars have different weights?"

What's next, "why don't apples taste like oranges?"?

You've got to remember that the golf R is based on a chassis shared amongst many cars across the VAG. Which enabled them to spend more time and resources developing it. If VAG needed to develop new manufacturing methods/tooling to cut weight from their chassis - they could afford to do it. The Focus RS is based on a dated chassis and I'm not sure how much Ford was able to optimize the weight, rigidity, etc. when the chassis is specific to the focus alone (c-max too?). Guys working on VWs MQB platform - VAGs best (very important program). Fords Focus chassis engineers - 3rd best? 4th? Shrugs. Also the current Focus entered into production in 2010 as a 2011 model year. Which means it was engineered before that. Maybe 2008, 2009? And it's possible Ford made some tweaks during the life cycle, but definitely not a clean slate.

I'm looking forward to the 2016 RS. But I'm also looking around the bend for the 2017 on the new chassis. This time around they can design in elements specific to the performance variants. I wouldn't expect the drivetrain to change much, but I would bet the handling, braking, cooling & weight will be improved. Sort of look at it like the 2016 is a proof of concept.

Isn't the Focus chassis also shared with Transit, mazda 3 and volvo C30/S60 or some such?

I know the Fiesta = Mazda 2
