And that figure is influenced by gearing and turbo lag. And why is 5 mph the key? Why not 7-83 MPH? The trap speeds in the 1/4 mile being similar suggest similar acceleration. The manual Golf R beat the Focus RS in the 30-50 mph and 50-70 mph acceleration if you want to play the "real life" game despite being down over 50 hp.

If you look at the gear ratios in the article, you can see the RS has taller gearing than both the STI and Golf R. I think that has a lot to do with the acceleration figures being closer despite the RS's greater power to weight ratio based on power at the crank.

With the similar part-time nature of the system they made their choices... The gearing might not be what we preferred but what the company felt they needed to do for mileage.

I just really feel bad for the STI owners, they somehow just cant make it there ... lol

but I have to say the 0- 30 and the 0-100 (which is the most common ) acc test the STI owns it. I am not sure what is a purpose of the 0-110 when you have already the 0-100 rating.lol
Also the STI / R was rated on 91 the RS on 93. Can the RS do the temporary boost plus on 91 safely?

I think the new 2017 Impreza looks great. If the STI built on that platform gets the 2.0 liter from the STI S207, then it should be exciting.

yep, I don't get it why Subaru still pushing that dumb 2.5 ... never worked. The 2.0 STI was always a lot better engine.
If they come out with the proper 2.0, that would be a hard choice guys like me between the RS or the STI.
Never mind a fact I actually really like the New R with manual.

I would be one of those people. I don't launch my cars and I don't really care how fast they get down the dragstrip.

0-60 is the standard though. You could not even find 5-60 info on most cars.

Right. I've launched my Evo 10 *zero* times over the last two and a half years, but it's seen a bajillion rolling pulls and track miles.

My Evo 8 I launched maybe 4x in 10 years of ownership. Three of which being the one time I ever went to a drag strip.

I had a few launches on my VIII, also only drag racing 11+ years ago. Never launched the IX or any of the Xs.

And that's fine because it shows some of the potential of the car. I'd be more interested if the standard was 5-60 because anyone can flub a start, as evident by the inconsistent 0-60 times every time someone tests a car.

Damn. I lied. I did go to a drag strip once and did three passes. I left as i would from a stop sign, but it was harder than I normally would. So i have, kinda, launched the car.

I have actually launched my car many times from standing still. God bless NJ and NY traffic
Anyway, like top gear from 30-60mph pulls i think is the one doesn't make any sense. Unless we talking about drivers who absolutely dont know how to shift . For an example even AT transmissions downshift at that point.... just plane unrealistic test/ pointlesss.
I cant imagine any person even with minimal driving skill start pulling from 30 or below in the highest gear..
