Focus RS
Is this platform strictly going to stay with the hatchback version? or do you guys think a sedan will be thrown into the mix as well? I wonder how this is going to be line up with the new dart srt-4...

According the the Chrysler timeline, the Dart SRT4 will be AWD turbo, but since the Dart SRT4 is not due out for two years, I don't think anyone can say anything beyond that.
To that argument I will counter: McLaren P1
They literally could do what.ever.they.wanted money was no excuse and they chose ediffs. Of course, they are probably eleventy billion times better programming and engineered than the VW/Ford eDiffs but still. Why would they mess with it if it sucked at the root?
And NO, I am NOT comparing the P1 to the RS. Don't be silly internet.

People need to read better. I even put key words in all caps and the internet still delivered.
Do people even read things anymore before replying?
Take a look again, and if my post is still not making sense go read my whole post again. It contains key details.
Don't be silly, internet.

Exactly the reply I predicted. The internet delivers.

That being said, perhaps it is you who should re-read my post. You stated you weren't making a comparison because McLaren had unlimited funds. I also stated that the cost of the system isn't why it's not a valid comparison. Price isn't a factor. If a Prius used e-diff, my reasoning would be the same. An e-diff system that uses friction brakes IS flawed at it's root. One that uses regenerative braking is not.

So basically it sounds sort of like a speed6 system, only it doesnt have a rear diff using a spool with 2 clutch packs one for each axle. So driving down the highway it will basically be FWD but any input detected that needs AWD it will react and engage as needed.
"The control unit in the rear drive unit continuously varies the front/rear and side-to-side torque distribution to suit the current driving situation, monitoring inputs from multiple vehicle sensors 100 times per second. A maximum of 70 percent of the drive torque can be diverted to the rear axle. Up to 100 percent of available torque at the rear axle can be sent to each rear wheel."

seems like all electronically controlled by sensors. So that can be good or bad.
Good , there is maybe a tweaking option and an easy one trough electronics. ( no hardware needed)
The bad , which i did run into when i was building my rally X was, those electronics can limit extremely to developing a race car. Like it did for the X when i was building the rally car. Example speed reading for a brake system - engine - AWD system. Hence why the X RS doesn't have an AYC at the rear, and has an easy turn off ABS system vs the "street" versions of the X like the GSR or MR.
The biggest draw back is for the "street" X to eliminate the ABS system... So with the Ford RS , you would basically eliminate the AWD system if you turn off ( or take out) the ABS unit? I have no clue we will see.
But i am sure RS will have some solution via Mountune

The P1 is a poor comparison, but not for the reasons you're assuming (price). The P1 is a hybrid. It's e-diff uses the regen brakes to transfer torque. This means the power isn't being "wasted" as heat or causing brake pad wear (my buddy went through set of pads, warped his rotors and melted the dust boots in the calipers after one track day in his ST) like in the Focus. In the P1, e-diffs make sense. In any non-hybrid, they suck *****.
I think this will be a good replacement for the EVO. It should be faster than the STi straight out of the box, and more mod friendly too. I wouldn't give my EVO up for one, but I think it's going to be an awesome little car.
