suv are alright for towing round town but high speed freeway driving I like the added stability of a longer wheelbase found on a truck.
I believe you. i was on some rolling hills farm roads and this new truck pulling the longest horse trailer passed me after i just passed another, like 120mph was too easy for him lol. personally I am not sure if I need any more stability since I just tow a lightweight open trailer and its mostly flat going to Nebraska. Crawling traffic on Dallas TX flyovers is the the most challenge we get. I have some up/downhill buttons, i'm not sure how to use them yet.

truck based suv is probably the best.
also some whos probably never missed a solonats told me this week he would have been better off renting truck and trailer.
Got my first blowout. I was still in the Houston area, uhaul came within 20mins but I think I should carry a spare so I dont get stuck somewhere (technically I'm not allowed to repair I think) big puncture on the suv 2.5 hours till Lincoln, google maps gave me an alernative route to a big town but they got bad highways. Lesson0. Stay on the tried and tested route. Lesson1: dont mention uhaul trailer to AAA. Lesson2: AAA RV Plus membership is worth it. Lesson3: Walmart Auto Center is easier to find especially in these rural areas. One was 10miles back but my AAA guy towed us 115mi closer to my destination. Took Walmart 2 days to get my tire size. Lesson4: Might be a good idea to figure out what truck/suv tire they normally keep? Lesson5 : I should check the spare(i t thought I could just put air if I needed it but turns out it didnt have a valve), and maybe carry a full spare next time Lesson6: 115miles thru rolling hills, several intersections and I later learned my AAA guy didnt lock the hitch

no chain hook up too. good thing that trailer is front heavy and trailer lights isnt hooked up (hazzards on the evo only) so the AAA guy was trying to avoid state troopers
From: Why do they always call the Evo the Dark Side?

For those 2 events you're basically at the price of that truck you shared after 5 years (probably around 7 years after adding the cost of a trailer in too). On the 2014 the biggest thing to look for is rust on the cab (cab corners are particularly common places) and they have some other little oddball issues like wiring harnesses in the rear doors getting damaged from the doors being opened and closed over years. They don't really have any issues that are outright unfixable, the drivetrain is basically the same 6R80, 8.8" IFS front axle and 9.75" rear solid axle that Ford has been using for the past couple decades now, it works and it's reliable, parts are cheap. The 13th gen does switch to the 10R80 in 2017 which I greatly prefer for towing over the 6R, but the 6R isn't a bad trans (unlike GM's 4L lol). The coyote engine has been figured out for a while, the only huge change it's had is the jump to PI and DI with the 3rd gen but that doesn't make it drastically better or worse for truck use. IMO it really comes down to interior amenities and MPG. The 13th gen sheds 600lbs over the 12th gen because of the aluminum body so it gains 2-3mpg (10-15%) over the 12th gen of a similar configuration and it's a much better truck to spend time in. 13th gen will have better resale as well if you choose to ditch it in a few years. I've owned both 12th and 13th gens BTW.
Yeah, I was figuring next year (if I buy a truck) I'd rent a trailer from Uhaul while I figure out where I am going to stash one. I don't have a splitter etc to worry about.
The cheaper truck gives me more budget to get a nicer trailer sooner. And then in a couple of years if I want to upgrade I won't lose much money on the 12th gen.

I'll also take sitting in my truck over sitting in a bucket seat every time for those long rides home after being outside all day. Being able to just pull over at a rest stop and sleep in the backseat also means I don't have to worry about hotel fares or planning. I usually sleep at the track but not sure if guys do that for AX events.
I can feel the anxiety already about doing the full rental strategy, lol. Especially having to coordinate the rental across two places.
Going to double check the final drive, etc on the cheap truck but that's probably a winner.
hows the napping space on that one?
if renting the uhaul trailer, time to work on some ramps. also about 2" of wood under the front tires. straps with this kind of hook seem to work best so I'm not ratcheting under the car
for uhaul, the best location is where theres a garage that maintains the rental equipment. they can just replace any worn out part if you point it out.
for reservations, online is cool but its better to meet up the branch manager to make sure your reservation dont get transfered to another random location
got the beater cleaned up yesterday, looking pretty rough outside but still chugging along. still loving this car - easy to drive, easy to tow. not as fancy as the newer cars inside but it gets the job done. love that i can dump spare e85 in it after racing.
Since I only occasionally pull the trailer with the truck, Ive been really wanting to ditch the 3.5 ecoboost for a 5.0 with a whipple just to have another fun toy. Would still stick with the SCREW but lowered 2"/4".
I dont like lifted trucks but the convenience and fun of a supercharged v8 awd sounds pretty rad. Mines a 19' so also thinking of looking for a 21-22 XLT High or Lariat.
