the trailex is 850 lbs dry weight. so 600 lbs lighter than my current trailer. and since i'll be building a new lighter car for next year, i don't need the heavy duty steel trailer. i could drop my overall towing weight by 1200-1400 lbs.
i've looked at prices on electric brakes conversion and most seems to be around $50 per wheel, so probably $300 total after said and done. the one major bad think i've read about surge brakes is that they don't work in icy conditions. im from northeast but i dont ever plan to tow in snow or ice.

One day I'll have one of these, and an F450 to tow it...

i had an f450 and it was an amazing tow rig. the only two downside were top speed and snow traction.

They're speed limited to 81. I don't ever go faster than that, especially when towing I'm usually around 70. For snow traction, just need the right tires and 4wd..

mine wasnt speed limited to 81 but it had 4;30 gears so it was SCREAMING at 85. i just didnt like holding it at that high of RPM for hours on end.

That's impressive. Must have been pretty poor conditions. Luckily, I don't live where I have to worry about that lol

even the new 350 with siped tires needed to be chained up on occasion.
heres the old 450. if i didnt snowmobile id still have one - no weight distribution hitch - it just pulled with no sway and no issues
now we have this little guy for snowmobiling. atc all aluminum. 20'x7' with a 6' nose

thanks. its nice to have a dependable rig to get you to the races - one less thing to worry about haha
current sled is a 155' axys with a sidekick. running pg now. did the race gas turbo thing a few years ago but its too much $$$ and hassle. i dont have any pics of it but here are a few of the others
first sled i "built"
iqr with 800cfi swap and custom built turbo system with a gt2860rs.
before we did the 800 swap i put a 685 in it with the rmk front end and left the 121" track - that was a FUN sled.
here is my axys from a couple years ago. this one had an SLP pipe and head. keith curtis fox shocks. great sled but i missed BOOST
and the rzr racing.
short course, worcs, and stage rally.

I know I’m late replying, but I have owned a Trailex open car trailer with electric brakes (which I sold) and later a similar one with surge brakes (it was a deal). Same tow vehicle (2500HD). I hated the surge brakes by comparison. It’s like no brakes and then they suddenly grab. I will stick with electric brakes going forward for sure.
