What i dont get is, when experienced tower guys telling you something why is some coming back whith a lot less experience and try to make a weak argument.
No insult taken my friend.I don't always agree with you,but I do respect you speaking your opinion.....even if your wrong

More power will only get the inexperienced into more trouble faster!

PS. I run a fleet of trucks(of all sizes)in a scrap metal business.I laugh at what people think they need just because some car company says its so in their ads.

Going 65mph most of the way I averaged 18.5mpg with some WOT fun to pass semi's, other trucks who were towing slower, and to make fun of my friend who was towing his evo with a gas engine dodge I should be purchasing a dodge turbo diesel as well sometime later this year I'm willing to pay more for a better condition/lower mileage truck as well. For what i'm looking for it will be costing me about $22-$24k for the truck I want.
If you were getting 18.5mpg, the truck must have had all the deletes done to it. I noticed my fuel mielage went up 3-4mpg on average after I got rid of the emissions crap.

You can't go wrong with a Cummins engine, they're the best diesel you can get in a pickup, hands down. I can't stress enough about deleting the EGR, and DPF on the exhaust, It makes a world of difference. Your power and MPG will increase dramatically, not to mention it's much better for the engine in the long run. Sure, you might get some black smoke out of the exhaust...but that nerver hurt anyone, right? Check out H&S Performance for quality parts if you do decide to mod it.

Gotta love the cummins! Mine is an '01 with appr. 450hp It will get 17mpg towing my evo with an open trailer and I never need to downshift on the highway! BTW I highly recommend having trailer brakes and a Jake Brake.

I've seen that video. It is awesome, but, it is in the wet. Mine were 4th gear rolling and hitting the brakes to build boost!

Just thought I'd update this.

I got the Toyota Tundra a few weeks ago. I really like the truck. It's the TRD Rock Warrior, super quiet, great ride. Stereo kind of sucks, no extendable mirrors for towing and no brake controller built in, all three of those are my only complaints.

As stated, I think most guys are full of **** on their fuel mileage claims. My 2010 Ford F250 turbo diesel I just sold was the best mileage I've ever seen out of any truck I've owned, 16.4 mpg over a full tank of fuel was the best I ever got and was happy with that.

This weekend I drove to Maine and back to pick up my new car trailer. On the way there, all highway driving, 74 mph on RT90 across the top of New York, Vermont and New Hampshire I got 16.87 mpg, that is now the best mileage I've ever gotten from any truck I have owned and I've owned a lot of them.

I bought a new 24' ProLine all aluminum enclosed car trailer. The trailer weighs only 2700 pounds empty. It has a 54" V-nose to help cut through the wind. Also has the narrowest tires I have ever seen used, which helps it roll easy. I bought an aluminum trailer because I feel to tow and enjoy towing you need a LOT of HP/Torque or it is pure misery.

I was sure the Toyota was going to suck towing an enclosed trailer and I am going out of my way to try and make it as enjoyable as I can with a gas engine. Well I am very-very happy to report this trailer tows like a dream. From 0-60 mph I have never had a truck accelerate as fast towing a trailer. Now keep in mind all my other trailers were substantially heavier, had flat fronts on them but were towed with much larger engines or turbo diesels. So I am very happy with the power and towing with the trailer empty. Coming back we had a lot of head wind and I dropped the speed down to 68 mph with the cruise control set. My fuel mileage was pretty ****ty. First tank was slow driving from NH, over to Maine and then down 1A on the coast just to see some scenery, we then jumped on 90W out of Mass. and headed home. That is where I had the cruise on 68 mph. First tank was 9.87 mpg, second tank dropped to 8.7 mpg, third tank was down to 8.03 mpg. So fuel mileage even with the Vnose and super light weight/rolling resistance was pretty poor and I wasn't going fast, speed limit was 65 and I ran no faster than 68 mph. The truck with the hills and head wind ran right at 3000-3200 rpm most of the time. Typically at that speed it is 1700 rpm not loaded.

I'm pleased though because I've never seen good mileage towing anyway. If I ever got 12 mpg in my life towing a trailer I'd be shocked.

For any of you looking for a real quality trailer, I will say this trailer is the best quality I've ever owned. I am amazed to be honest, I can't find a single flaw ANYWHERE and that has never happened. Nice people to deal with too.

PROLine Products in Milton, NH is the place that built it and where I bought the trailer. I'd highly and I mean HIGHLY recommend them to anyone looking.

i am glad you like it. I have a tekhonsa electric brake controller. you can get a plug and play option, the dash matches with a color of the screen on it. You wont even feel a trailer behind you with it, looks like its OEM also.

the radio does suck because the basic radio . You can get a cheap towing mirrors from Toyotatalk forum ... just a hint

But instead of those we got a so much more worthy thing like towing package , suspension

I bought and installed a brake controller already. I didn't try to fit it in that hole, which I would have. I mounted it under the steering wheel area.

The mirrors aren't bad but the truck comes with a towing package, I guess to Toyota that means a hitch and trailer wiring. Most other new trucks now come with extendable mirrors and a built in brake controller, both of which would be nice.

we had a truck dyno day a month or so ago cause we have a lot of **** talking to do around the shop with everyone converting their evos to race only cars. here were the results (mustang dyno):

2011 tundra = 323whp
2010 tundra texas edition (big chrome wheels) = 317whp
chevy SS (6.0) = 312whp - 384ftlb
chevy 1500 = low 200's
titan = 260whp - 350ftlb

the tundras wouldn't stay in the gear selected to get a good torque number (although they were both 360+). they would automatically downshift no matter what. the titan was even tuned with an intake and wasnt event close at power. the chevy 1500 was an older model with i think an HD package for towing.

i'll try to get a ford and a dodge on the dyno even if i have to go "test drive" one.

I just bought a 2004 Silverado 2500HD Duramax for towing. My first tow will be down to San Diego for the SCCA Solo National Tour next week. We'll see how it goes.
