even with aftermarket oil cooler?

What oil temps are you seeing?

With an aftermarket cooler, this past weekend, I saw max 235, a typical temp after multiple dry laps was 220-228.

Also... not to turn this into a crazy oil thread. But what oil brand are you running 5-50/0-40?

Looking at the article above, I was considering Valvoline VR1 (great availability) or Amsoil Dominator.

I run Dom 15-50. I've seen temps as high as 245F at Gingerman with an AMS cooler kit that uses a 25 row Setrab cooler. I wouldn't worry about oil temp until I see it getting up around 260F.

Stock internals? Rebuilt motor?

To add to the complications, this is a classic and fascinating oil theory: https://540ratblog.wordpress.com/201...-test-ranking/

it's been debunked on BITOG

been using RL 5w30, switched to RL 30wt race oil. also had good success with amsoil zrod. stock motor, mild boost, but they work well for me. not sure on oil temps though

Manley rods and pistons. Block is untouched, factory crank. Stock valvetrain w/Kiggly regulator.

Do you have the link? Seems like most people just complaining about the secret test rig. Didn't feel particularly scientific, yet good points. I'm enjoying reading up on the topic.

The big one for me is... does a high Zinc, low detergent "race" oil actually have benefits?

For the next round, i'm going to focus on the Accusump and oil pressure. Blackstone to date on Mobile 1 has been good, I'll do more homework before I switch that. Lower priority than oil pressure on track at the moment.

Ive followed that link when choosing my oil too since it seemed one of the few places that has done any real testing on film strength instead of just assuming thicker is better. Would love to read a rebuttle on it with actual information to the contrary.

It does look like the block has an update at the bottom regarding "that forum" and their comments. I do find it hard to side with people who have just read or hear vs one who has hands on experience, even if its not a perfect test (I cant say if it is or isnt)

i've done UOAs on almost all my oil changes on the car. Wear has been solid, including heavy autox and track usage. Standouts for my personal use have been Amsoil 10w30 ZROD and Red Line 5w30. I'm actually testing their 30wt race oil right now. Giving it 2 track days, a number of autox events & street miles. Will drain in a few weeks and take sample and see how it does. It is of the "high zinc/phos low detergent variety" so I am going to also add the base number test to see how acidic the oil has gotten over the interval. If it could last the usage I'm giving it, I may very well just switch to it.

I go by real world usage, UOAs I've seen, and the data available, particularly looking at HTHS numbers - high strength high shear resistance, or something like that. Basically a measure of the film strength. In the end, that's what is going to matter w.r.t. the quality of the base oil.

Looks like the Evos did pretty well at round 3. Looking forward to South Festival.

In-Car from South Course. Accusump seemed to improve, but not by any means 100% correct oil pressure loss in right hand turns.
