Error codes that I got for my car are these two:
  • P0420 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)
  • P1833 - Shift Solenoid "1" Short
So, I am guess the second one is from the transmission for the 2-4 shift magnets

The first one is a bit puzzling though. I had an exhaust leak and it happened to be at the top of the OEM cat. So, I replaced it with one from Auto Zone as an OEM replacement. Could that have anything to do with this?

Bank1 looks like it is from the first O2 sensor. If so, would that mean that I need to replace it?

This car is just fighting more and more. I am negotiating with myself whether to fix it or just let it go and this is not helping at all. Or, maybe it is...

Thanks for help!

P0420 is from the autozone cat. Aftermarket cats almost never work on modern cars. I'm sure you can find a lightly used OEM cat from an Evo shop or someone who modded their car and kept all their stock parts.

The shift solenoid error means you "could" just replace the mechatronic unit as the trans is likely mechanically fine. But at your mileage I would just get it rebuilt if it were me.

They did say it was an OEM replacement. It even had a plug for the O2 sensor just like the stock one. My original one corroded from the top of the cat, so it couldn't be saved and I just wanted a stock replacement, without any performance upgrades. Is there any other unit out there that could work on a stock car?

So, you are saying this is not an infamous 2-4 shift fork with those magnets getting loose there? Could mechatronic unit be replaced without taking the trainy out?

Btw, which one is (Bank 1) out there?

Actually, 1833 is the fork magnet. Your scan tool had the description wrong.

Autozone is still an aftermarket cat. They never work properly on modern OBD2 vehicles.

Bank 1 is the engine. As there is only one bank. Bank1/2 is for V or flat/opposing cylinder engines. Inline engines only have one bank of cylinders.

I'd avoid any type of fiberglass wrap. besides the stock heatshield is a much easier and cleaner solution

I've seen enough blankets catch on fire to stay clear of using them on my cars. They also trap moisture pretty well.

I'm a much bigger fan of inconel heat shields similar to what Headershield, ATP, and Turbosource offer. Keeps heat in very nicely, easier to work around than a blanket and can't soak in oil/coolant/water.

Is it worth it/possible/practical to use those type of heat shield sleeves on the big coolant lines?

Only for protecting the line from melting if it's near exhaust. Otherwise, no.

i have the artec exhaust manifold so it's basically stock size exhaust mani. I'm using the OEM heat shield on top of it. was just thinking the turbo blanket would be good for isolating heat a little more, not for any particular concern.

i think my csf radiator actually moves the coolant hose line farther towards the driver side, farther away from the exhaust manifold
