you guys talking about on/off ramps and spots to practice on the street make me laugh.
quit ****ing around on public roads that you can't really learn anything except bad habits and do a god damn track day already. once you see what you can do at the track in a controlled environment I promiss you'll never want to drive fast on the street again and you'll be a better driver to boot.

I just read a great article in Grassroots Dec 2010 issue Page 158 about what it takes to go fast in Autocross. Bob Tunnell at multi year National Champion wrote the article. I bring this up because one of his tips is to practice on the street (Marc's comment made me think of it), this can be done without breaking the law. You can practice left foot braking, looking ahead (like on a highway on/off ramps), rolling on throttle and applying brakes smoothly etc..
With that said there is practicing driving at high speed which is something that needs to be done on a track only. Autox is same thing you could practice techniques on road, but no way can you throw your car around like you could at an event. Its just being mature enough to recognize where you are, who's around you and what is appropriate driving. Marc is 1/2 right in his statement.
If you guys have access to Grassroots, read that article. It is great advice on how to approach an event, we can all learn something from the article, I did in one reading while on the crapper.

thats what I meant about it making you a better driver. what you learn on the track (smoothness, looking ahead, proper technique, ect) are all things you can carry over to the street and practice with your everyday driving to make you a better all around driver. it has nothing to do with driving fast. I drive like a wuss on the street (and on the track too, I'll be honest), but I'm always working on my technique while driving like a wuss.

I almost did it on like Monday or tuesday but refrained because I'm getting old.
like on 95 going to cb on sunday, i saw 2 hondas doing it
there was a video posted several years ago from a VW meet/cruise where some kids did just that on the PATP. The dumb asses got pulled over and somehow the cops got a hold of the video camera and watched the tape. Well, all those dudes got serious fines/tickets for messing around in a construction zone. it was full of nguyen! true story.
REALLY, I totally did soft and easy launches in Shoe's car. It seemed unecessary to launch because you had to get through the first gate after launch. I think launching hard would upset the car and make it difficult to get through there. That said maybe I am wrong and would have surely tried it just to see. If Chase did it more than once than it must have gained something. I bring this up because it was probably 2/10's time saved by Chase, so I beat him better than .026!
I did not want to launch Shoe's car and I am sure he did not want me launching it.

Every time I try that I usually hit a cone. I never see it, but there's always a worker running over with one finger up....
If anyone is interested in a VIII/IX w/ wing custom made car cover (all weather resistent) and was only used about 10-15 different times and for no more than 8 hrs each time (if that) shoot me a PM. Originally paid $200+ for it and looking for $80 OBO.
Also still have my '03 Silver Evo VIII OEM Wing and CF VG if interested.
Sorry that I am going completely off topic here. Moving back east July 1st, which means I am quiting my job and don't have another lined up yet, so extra cash can't hurt
