I hope I can stick to the plan too! I would love to call it quits. All that talk at mcfaddens just made me want to spend more money lol.

In all seriousness marc, skip the mods and go for the displacement..It will only make everything you already have work better. Remember the 2.4 with the precision 5857 I posted graphs from before? That thing would kill at a trackday..

Any idea how quick a 2.4 would spool a IX turbo, or a stock framed turbo (minus a black) for that matter? I would think it would be quick as ish...

I always wonder that as well. Most people just assume that a 20% bump in displacement correlates to 20% more exhaust gases (maybe) which correlates to 20% faster spool.

Someone once posted a 2.3l with stock IX turbo...iirc, 33Xhp/36xtq. Don't remember what he mentioned about spool though.

Shaw I asked about you several times but you haven't been around to see it.
A 2.4L will spool a stock turbo very quickly. I had a stock on my old 2.3L. It was a TERRIBLE idea. The damn thing spooled while I was cruising on the highway and compressor surge was a constant never ending battle until I got a T61 on in it's place. On the highway I could spool it at around 2000 RPM and I frieking hated it. The other bad part is that it very quickly fell out of it's power band and ran out of steam. The car just did not pull above 5K RPM but from a stand still it was like a big block V8. You would want a larger turbo to take advantage of a 2.4L. I think my HX35 is a perfect size and will produce a killer power band but I still plan to snag an HX40 or similar. 600 WHP and 600 Ft Lb torque sounds like it would be fun.

I knew that would happen. Kind of like when I said the 2.4L wasn't needed and all I wanted was a good suspension. That lasted for a week.

I was thinking surge would be a problem, and not being able to keep up in the higher revs. It sounds like a good idea in theory, but I could see how it would become impossible to live with for those very reasons.

That's rather disappointing.

On the bright side, Dan got beat by the '87 Chrysler Town and Country.

Good driving Kenny. Pete, I call shenanigans!

Which is weird because the srt4 and mazdaspeeds are 2.4 and 2.3's respectively, but have much smaller turbos than the ix's. I've driven both and LOVED the driveability that the motors allowed.

I'm running the summers to the bitter end.

Andy, those turbo's are designed to work on a larger engine and probably have a bigger turbine housing as a result which keeps spool up within reason and doesn't allow for surge. Our's were made to spool quickly in a relatively small engine where surge was not an issue. The size isn't really important, it comes down to flow which is determined more by the compressor blade and to a smaller extent, the turbine blade than the overall size. Look at something like the FPblack which flows more than a turbo like mine but it's much smaller overall.
