Nope this one is in Reading Pa. It's the grandaddy of our events. It's the 2nd longest running hill in our series. Over 50 years! There is another one that is 104 years old tho. Lol

it is the longest hill we run distance wise. 2.5 miles.

Well Mike gave me the bad news. The 6spd has started the slow death. Hopefully get something done over this winter. Just another thing that was inevitable.

Damn, sorry to hear that. What were the symptoms? Any plans on upgrading or just staying stock for the next time around.

Slight whine from the transmission. I'll most likely swap to a 5spd to handle the power.

The input shaft whine is how it starts. I am sorry to hear it, but that 6 speed upgrade is pretty expensive and not even proven yet. I think your making the right choice in going to the 5.

Yup at least I'm not in any "immediate" hurry. I'll be good to this winter. Probably talk to Shep tomorrow and see about pricing. The 5spd is proven. Last thing I want to do is spend over 2k on an unproven system.

Agreed. Mine had the whine for at least 5,000 miles before I decided to pull it. I could have likely kept it in for a while longer, but I had some downtime due to the build and decided it was best to do it now then rip it up again.

Mike can only take so many engine and tranny jobs per season, better to kill two birds with one stone

Yeah, Mike said it probably had quite a bit of life in it since the whine was minimal. However I want to do autox and br's North Track and the last thing I want to worry about is the transmission.

I figured I could also save a little on shipping and drive it out there and pick it up. I planned on doing his max lock rear differential upgrade anyways, so I'll kill those 2 birds at once.

I forgot to ask him about those washer squirters. Blast it!!!!

I drove to BR to get the motor head and all of that and Shep for the clutch plates and transmission. I saved over $400 in shipping and at least a week of transit time and sorting b.s.

Making the drive out there is worth the trip, plus you get to see the shops and shoot the **** with John.

That's areal bummer. Hope it all works out for the best.

Is Shep or someone out there upgrading or refitting the six speeds now?

If so I hadn't heard.

No need to worry. I knew I was on borrowed time with my power level.

yeah, Shep is working on a 6spd upgrade and has been testing for awhile now. The current rumor is that you will have to buy 6 new gears and they will be price around 1800 - 2000. That does not include anything else like synchros. At 2k I'm about 1k away from a brand new Shep Transmission without a core swap. Throw in synchros and everything else, I'll be close to 3k. Not to mention the 5spd has had a long time to be tested while I'd be a lab rat for the 6spd upgrade.

your post got me thinking about my driveline's future.

i was checking out shep's site last night a little, and all other things being equal i think a 6spd with a 4.11 final drive would be pretty f'ing sweet. i have no idea whether that is applicable to the 6spd, or just the 5spd though.

back in the day i had a 1992 mercury cougar (a large boat shaped like a wedge of cheese for those who don't know), and being a poor college student i didn't have much money to keep it keep running let alone mod it. but one of the best things i did to it was re-gearing it to a 3.55 final drive ratio when i blew the gearbox.

an evo 6spd with 4.11's would be a blast to drive though, i think.

Supposedly there is a Final Drive option for the new 6spd.
