for a more street oriented tire i absolutely love my Dunlop Direzza Star Specs. they grip very well (for a street tire) and actually wear a lot better than i was expecting.

for a stickier, and much faster wearing, street legal tire i liked the Nitto NT01's. they had much better grip on the autocross than normal street tires, but for daily driving they melt fairly quickly when compared to a more conventional street tire.

Yeah the Star Specs are actually more pricey then Advan AD-08's now. Only street tire more expensive is RE-11. All three are great performance tires that can be used every day. Mileage will vary.

when did that happen? but i think it's good. all you have to do is look at what the national event drivers use.

it's all star specs in the top spots. but the ad-08's are ok, as are the re-11's and the hankook ventus rs2( i think). but i would go with the star specs for summer tires with occasional autox/track.

Paul not sure but I've been pricing new tread as my Hankook RS3's are chewed up and have some cupping. They are about 20bucks or more for four. That overall is a drop in the bucket but they use to be A LOT cheaper than the Advan's and BStones. Have you used the Advan AD-08's? That's what I'm leaning toward.

Falken Azenis RT615K

Just bought four for $616 17"

I had the 615's on my last two Evo's and daily driven, rain, etc. Worked great at the track (both drag and autoX) and driving into downtown Pgh.

The 615K's are supposed to be better is what I am hearing...

Getting mine mounted in the next week or two once I am sure the snow is over...

Thanks for all the info so quick guys. I'll look into the star specs all though not sure if i can afford them but gotta pay to play!

Another question would be, for the star specs, or any tire for this matter. What would be a good size tire for a 18x9.75 +20 offset?? 265 35r 18??

I really like my Toyo R1R's in 255/35/18. Sidewall is definitely not as stiff, but I found that they have WAY better grip and water excavation than my old Bridgestone RE01R's. For a DD, I found having the softer sidewall was a welcome change. If I want the sidewall stiffer, I just inflate them to 34psi. Think i got them for a little more than 600 shipped, so they are definitely an affordable option to consider.

Frank ran them on the stu evo and quickly changed back to the star specs.

No real world testing on these, but I'm sure they're fine for the street. The older azeni's were descent until the re-01r came out.

For the street, you might not want any bigger. But I've seen 315 30 18 on an evo x before.

Josh I've got a local shop I can get 275/35/18 direzza z1's for a little over $600. You'd spend over $1k through TireRack. Let me know when you plan on needing tires and I'll help you out, I'm picking up a few sets myself.
The star specs are nice because they're actually wider than your normal 275. I still have 265s on my advans, they're a little stretched but just enough.

Oh and where the hell did you find a wheel that is 9 and 3/4 inches wide?

Brett

ugh, looks like they did creep up a bit. high oil prices are the bane of car enthusiasts in so many ways.

for 255/40/17 tire rack has them listed at $700. still mighty reasonable for the quality of the star specs.

i will probably be due for another set of tires around june or so depending on how much racing i do. i'm definitely planning on getting another set of them provided they're still in stock at that point.

Star Specs for ~$600 in 275/18??
I'm interested. I need 265/35/18

I'm also curious where you found a 18x9.75 wheel...reminds me of 19.5" wheels

there cheap rims... Cheaper than rotas, yet weigh less than rotas. They are $600 shipped for all 4 just getting them to match the black theme and then maybe later down the road order advan Rs-d's like i wanted. They are XXR 527. They just got released and will be at stores in 2 weeks. They dont look bad, sorta look like stock evo x wheels now just matte black and thiner spokes

Did they happen to tell you how much the 527's weight? $128 for a wheel that looks that good is hard to believe...unless it weights 30lbs.
