Arrggh...damn you and your logic. And why did you have to bring up blown motors and bad tunes. Jim, I don't want to think about that. I don't like to think about reality and its consequences. Just tell me everything is going to be ok...that is what I want to hear.

Cheap, easy and plenty more then you really need anyway. Its not always about power when it comes to who wins a race! Thats in any racing venue. .

I mean your already beating almost everyone at the flashlight drags that you race. Are you planning on actually drag racing or are you just looking for a timeslip. I could print you one out if you want!

Just my $.02.
I've also considered that option. Honestly though, I love E85 and the combination of spool and torque of the stock turbo. I don't think I could deal with something as big as a Red or Black unless I was able to make crazy power and had a higher compression ratio and/or displacement to help the spool. I like the idea of an HTA Green more.

I think I'm going to just go the route I was originally planning. Finish with my remaining bolt-ons, get some GSC S2's with springs, and get a good SD tune. Slap on some slicks and try to be one of the few IX MRs to break into the 10's on the stock turbo. It is going to be the most economical option and like you said, I'll still be beating most everything that I race anyway.

I was talking ot jason as js dyno about e85 for a while but i am in south hills ant closest station is robinson or jefferson hills so i am just going to up my cams and race gas tune for track
Was it painted yet? Their work better be immaculate for as long as it is taking. I've been sharing a car with my girlfriend all week - can't wait to get the Evo back tomorrow.

Its not that bad and you arent very far from the one on Rt.51. Just buy a few 5 gallon gas cans and fill up any of the Sheetz in the area - the blend seems to be similar enough where you would not have to keep retuning (unless you filled up at Wexford Get Go). My AFR's were consistent all last summer and it never needed to be retuned. The hp and torque gain are well worth the inconvenience.

I just wanted to play the role of devils advocate for you, even though I think you will be fine and will do quite well with your setup. Just err on the side of caution if you are ever in doubt on a part, and always double check your tune yourself.

Are you still running that hallman? Otherwise stock or do you have other mods?

You usualy won't get as much boost in first as you get in higher gears. I always set it in 3rd or 4th and made sure the other gears just weren't hitting too much boost. Boost level was always based on mods and tune. I think I had 19 relatively stock with the 10.5 hotside VIII turbo and 22 lbs before I pulled it in favor of the ECU controlled boost setup I am running now.

No, I'm glad you said it because I do need to hear it from time to time. I'm really not concerned with the parts, but my main concern is the tune.

When we reloaded my E85 tune this year, it was knocking all over the place even after several fill ups at the same station (Robinson where it was E87 according to Curt). Jay threw it up on the dyno and it was down on power from last year and had some knock. Timing was real aggressive up high, so he pulled some and tried to smooth the graph as best as he could (we were on limited time). Car drives alot smoother now, making the same power with less timing, and I seldom see any knock (just occasionally under high load at lower rpm). Its by no means is finished, but if I am concerned about anything at this point it would be the tune. Considering I don't know much about tuning it is hard for me to check it.

Watch your timing numbers in the higher load cells. If there was anything that did the most damage from my tune from Jason, it was the timing he was using. Way WAY too aggressive for a street car, both in the higher loads and his jumps from one cell to another. It might be beneficial to you to have one map for your drag weekends and another for cruising. It would take some stress off the motor and help MPG, etc. Also keep an eye on your IDC % with the injectors you have now and running E-85.

Spend some time reading the ECUflash section and getting to know the basics. There is so much information over there that if you take the time to read, when something is wrong in your map you will have a general idea on how to take care of it. Also, there are people who are here to help. Mike, Travis, Curt and Nate have all helped me out at one time or another. While some people here don't like J&S and the work that they do (I agree with them on some points) I think many people here respect the hobby and would help you out if you were in need. A second opinion is always a good thing.

I appreciate it Jim. I really do need to take the time to read into it - I'm just lazy.

it was outside when i saw it earlier in week and backed in outfront havent seen it since and i drove past yesterday. WHo has tuned your car just curious i had buschur do mine twice for different parts and such i thought i had a pretty good tune then during winter i had some major hesitation and sputtering like a bad plug when on highways giving it some gas had to shift it at 4500 so i went ot J&S they said my tune was pretty generic and air fuel was not where it should be for injectors and turbo i had previously i put down 371 ad buschur when had the red and injectors done since that tune i just changed the air intake and jason got me to 407 and said there was more in it so i really reccomend them and not sure what happened with the buschur tune seemed fine for couple yrs then got all goofy over winter

I have, but he is just too far away to use all the time. He tuned my car before the winter time on SD and I couldn't take it back for any updates once the weather changed. His shop is around an hour and a half away from my house.

Canex, here is a decent article that Mellon did on IDC and power ratings for the FIC Bluemax, RC and some PTE series injectors.

Smart move trusting J&S over Buschur!. Generic?

So you had a tune for a couple of years, and made 371 on Buschurs dyno (which is fine numbers) And the tune was not good enough? I have a bridge i wanna sell, you buying?

Also wiggam, just because you put down more power doesn't mean the tune is necessarily better. As you read in my case, I was making good power but it was terrible for the motor.

Not sure if Brandt will be heading out to flashlights (he has some serious horsepower tuned right)...but I know I will be heading out to Green Country....to recapture one of those great trophies. I am just waiting for the cams to show up from FedX...and then have Mike do his thing....

...so you better be practicing your launches as I know for this old guy...that is one thing I do well .....and I'll have some horsepower once Mike is done to make it a good race....
