Local Pittsburgh meet part deux
Thanks for the advice, and yea like you i don't want to be the fastest guy either
just would like to have fun and get to know my car more and be able to control it more like you said. Id much rather start off with autocross to, because lol im soo paranoid when it comes to other people racing too and don't want to block them or anything and don't want to be reckless. For motocross i would just go slow around the track and get a feel for it and just up my pace each time seemed to work well, i'd definitely do the same for this! probably a stupid question but how do you know when your pushing the car to much... i know slamming on the brakes and the rear end slides out, but anything else?? i don't want to roll or damage the car
just have fun like you said justin

that starts to change at higher speeds though. i don't use the brakes to reposition the car on the north track, for example, during cornering. if you do that, you're gonna have a bad time.
your car is going to be a bit tricky too because you're pushing quite a bit of oomph to those wheels. i've been taking mine out racing since it was stock, so as i gradually add more power i have been able to slowly adapt to the changes. with the mods you have you're going to have to pay more attention to what your right foot is doing as you go along. one of my biggest challenges with racing aside from where to start my braking zone has been quickly and accurately interpreting the information the car is relaying to me. over-thinking and under-thinking both have their own distinct drawbacks.
if you decide to come out to north park that's one of the best places to start. there are loads of knowledgeable people there that are more than willing to give you tips and advice, especially when you're new to the sport. i've been able to pick up quite a bit from the guys there, and it is a low pressure situation.
let me know when you decide if and when you decide to hit up north park. there are events the next two sundays, then they take a break for a week or two before event #4. if i am around i would be more than happy to have you ride shotgun in my car and ride along in yours. if i'm not there, there are a couple other guys that i'm sure would be up for some mentoring.
i'm a much better teacher than i am a driver, and historically speaking i can pretty much guarantee that with me in the passenger seat for a few races you will handily beat any time that i put down on any given day.

There's lots of haptic feedback the car gives you when your approaching the limit. It's good to hear you have a motorcycle background as that teaches you lots in the way of balance, modulation and just as important, being smooth. You will be a great canidate for high performance driving and will deffinately be a fast learner when I get you on the track.
anyway i hope i learn fast, i usually do and always want to be better so that usually commits myself to the event or sport. But i cant wait it should be a blast!
well there are times when jamming the brakes are acceptable. occasionally on autox i will use that with the wheel slightly turned to make the car rotate. if your wheels are facing straight though mash the brakes all you want.

just keep in mind that you can't ride along during competition runs unless you are registered to drive for the event. i think you can take fun runs though by just signing the waiver. not 100% sure on that however. they used to let anyone ride along at any time just by signing the waiver but their insurance company instituted some changes last season.
at any rate yeah, come on up and get some ride-a-longs. it's a good time.
what kind of tires are you running now?

Ah, well even just coming out and talking with you guys and seeing what you guys do would help a lot!! so I'll probably come out sunday any way to watch again! Im guessing the track changes every event? and i have Hankook all season tires 245/40zr/18 97W
yeah there is a different course design for each event. at the beginning of the year they pick course designers, usually two people per event, if you look on the nhscc website on the schedule they have them listed. once you know the regulars and what kind of car they drive you can usually make a decent educated guess as to some of the general aspects of the course.
you could run on those all seasons if you wanted. obviously it wouldn't be ideal, but if you bump up the pressures in them to brace the sidewalls you'd get around alright. :]

) I can guarantee one thing, drag start!!Please send my apologies to your buddy Brad, I ASSumed his nickname was Lefty and I hope I didn't offend him when I called him it. I realized about an hour later when Lefty showed up. I believe the saying goes "open mouth insert foot".
Good to meet some new people, I am definitely down for the monthly meets.

Honest mistake, I figured that I'd be the only dude missing an arm there, so I said " look for the guy with one arm"...... So of course 2 guys missing arms show up, Right.? I did not get the chance to meet you, hopefully next meet or around GBG. If you see my X @ 7 Engine in GBG stop by.

[QUOTE=Oki Panoki;8188334]some photos from northpark today. first time shooting motorsports

Nice pics! Street tires suck versus the hoosiers. Dumb *** me assumed my 18x9.5 would easily clear the brembos, seeing how both my sets of 17's clear, but they didn't
Even after Mondo drove me to the part store to make some spacers with fender washers, it was still not enough. So the bald star specs did their best to win esp
Longer arp studs, spacers and open ended lugs are on their way!
