Rebuilding my VIII
Good lord, way to DIY man! Obviously, a mechanical background is immensely useful when taking on a task like this. Do us all a favor and have the wife recording your initial start up, and then post for all to see!

Haha, thanks. I got my mechanical background in Texas A&M's Sports Car Club while getting my accounting degree.
As for the start up, I have a bad feeling that it'll be 3AM on a weekday when it happens. Always is. I'll start the evening by wanting to do a couple things and then push to go ahead and finish it. Hopefully it won't happen like that.
JNZ got my order out today and it'll be here Friday. Found a set of timing tools locally. Things are moving right along! If all goes well, the motor will be in the car this weekend.

Finished up the head tonight. Ended up pulling the lifters back out after I finished reading the cam install thread. I was looking for torque specs in the FSM and ended up reading that it is suggested to prime the lifters with diesel again after you clean them. So, that was done.
Intake cam caps in place. Exhaust cam in place and lubed up:

All torqued down:

All wrapped up for the night:

I don't actually have the cam seals in. New seals will be here Friday. Just wanted to put the gears on for kicks.

Things I discovered today.
Hooked a battery back up:
I, in fact, did not fix my sunroof. It moves back ok, but then starts clicking. It moves forward about 2 inches at a time and stops. Tilt isn't working. I think it's in the wrong position on the track. Another project awaits me.
My windows go up and down now that I've removed the alarm. That's a bonus.
I have no foglight bulbs. PO must have had some nice ones and removed them before I bought the car. I'll pick up some sexy yellow fogs.
The next couple weeks should bring some big progress. Stay tuned!

When i picked up my TB Evo 8 my sunfroof didnt work made an awful clicking noise. The small dealer i bought it from took it to the Mitsu dealer and they repaired it (he paid of course) when i first used it, it worked fine then the next day it was doing the same thing as yours. I called the dealer and told them what was happening and thats when i was told that the "computer needed to relearn the travel" so they said play with it and after about 6 or 7 times it started working properly. Then around 2 years ago the screws came loose and the motor dropped so i reinstalled them using loctite and had to do the same process again and it works fine.

Thanks for the tip! I'll hook a battery back up and play with it. I would LOVE to not have to drop the headliner down again.
Should be getting my steering rack bushings in today. Not sure if I'll install them tonight. My son was up several times last night and up really early. I'm dragging. It'll be a very physical day at the office, too. We will see.
Ordered a tap and plug off Amazon to finish removing the EGR from the head. I'll post pics when I do that.

Pretty quick install on the steering rack bushings. Would have been even quicker with some light. The only difficult part was removing the rear driver's side bushing. I had to get creative with prying the rack up and making room for it to come out. In the end, it was a 45 minute job.
Bushings and stuff:

Driver's side knocked out and replaced with well-lubed bushings and sleeves:

Passenger's side;

Quick and dirty. Off to bed.
