So, it was a good night.
If you're doing something similar, read this thread:
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/cyli...ine-block.html
I did quite a bit of it. The outside of the engine was pretty darn clean. I cleaned out the cylinders and used almost a half a roll of paper towels. I wiped a lot of dust out. I then taped off the block to paint it.... and then decided not to paint. I'd just end up unhappy with my paint job. I'm actually very satisfied with how the block looks.
So, then fun part.
Everything torn down yet again for cleaning:

Balance shaft bearings installed. I had the shop do the other side since I'm using the GSC Race Kit. Good thing, too. I really mucked up the clocked bearings

Oil squirters installed and torqued to spec:

ARP's lubed and inserted finger-tight:

I've been waiting for this for months:

And then:

Block ready. Thrust bearing installed. Laces out

In place:

Crank is done. Lubed and torqued to ARP's specs. Spins nicely:

Going to rent a compressor tomorrow and get the pistons in. Updates tomorrow. Goodnight, it's way past my bedtime.

Okay, that last picture is bothering me. I actually went out to the garage to confirm that one of the studs is a bit higher than the others. I'm going to redo everything tomorrow.
I wonder why that stud is higher than the others? Weird. I timed my motor twice on the stand, dropped it in, had first startup, drove it around, then my buddy messed up his timing and I ripped my lower timing cover off and re timed the car two more times before I felt happy. Long story short, do it a million times until it's not hanging over your head.

I went back and redid it this morning. I put them in by hand last night. I must have just hit a spt that wasn't so smooth. I backed off all the nuts and used a hex this time. I just ran them in until I hit bottom. A straight edge across the tops of all the studs made me happy. Everything is re-torqued.

Going to spend some time lining the rings up. I picked up a ring compressor this morning. Should have that all wrapped up this afternoon if things go well. Hoping to do that, get the front cover on, and put in my head studs.

Had a pretty productive afternoon with one disappointment.
First piston in. New ACL bearings and ARPs ready to go. Lubed up:

Torqued down. Machine shop used my stretch gauge when they resized the rods. He said that they all stretched correctly at 26lbs. I have no reason not to trust him, but I thought that was pretty coincidental. He's been very friendly and very talkative when I go in. He's an older guy and always makes a point to make sure I understand what's going on and answers all my questions. So, I'm trusting him:

More installed:

Started installing the head studs, just because I've always wanted to take that picture:

Here's where things got sad. I bought these studs used on the forum. I was told they were in great shape. Well, 9/10 were. Now I have to find one stud... Anyone have one???? I may run it to the shop to see if they can do anything about it, but I kinda doubt it. The kicker is that when I pulled the blown motor out, it had 3 studs in it. I tossed them with the block thinking I couldn't possibly ever need ONE spare...

Front cover installed with GSC Race Shaft:

Front cover with new seal:

Spacer installed to delete the balance belt cog:

And where I leave it for the day:

The front cover was held on by various incorrect bolts when I got it. I'm going to order the correct ones from Mitsu or STM shortly. Same with the water pump and all the other timing goodies.
Thanks for watching. Dropped the head at the shop on Friday. Things are moving right along.

Don't be alarmed... But I just installed Ford parts on the Evo!

Got them from SpoolinUp. He shipped super quickly. Thanks again!
Installation was pretty easy. The only difficult part was getting the pins out of the old connectors. I was unable to do it gently and ended up just breaking the connectors. They were so brittle that it wasn't a problem.
