Here's where I left the car last night:
Rebuilding my VIII-6ca5iva.jpg

New cam seals in. Cam gears torqued to spec. Front cover bolted and torqued along with water pump, oil filter housing, tensioner, pulley/motor mount bracket. My scraper didn't come in or I would have installed the oil pan.

It seems that I'm missing the backing plates for the upper timing cover and matching screws for the crank angle sensor. Because of this, I decided not to time the car today. I was going to borrow tools from a local NTEC member, but didn't want to have to undo it all if I needed to remove the cam gears to access the backing plates.

I'm happy with the progress. It's nice to have parts on the motor and off my work bench. If I do anything today it'll be to torque down the intake manifold.

Scraper is out for delivery today... to my office. I hate it when I do that.

Torqued down the IM. You can see the spacer in there. Hope that + the EGR delete will make for some cooler intake temperatures.

A few more little things today.

Water pipe installed:

Cam sensor installed. By the way, I broke a cheap Chinese made socket torquing this down:

Exhaust manifold:

Also just installed the dip stick. I need new o-rings for it badly. Tomorrow night the oil pan goes on!

Great job on this rebuild mate! Been there on another car, I understand the work it takes, but you will enjoy a great new car when it's over!!

Probably the only "cool" part that I'm putting on the car for now. For one, the stock baffle got a chunk taken out when the rod exited the block. And, I don't want to pull the oil pan to do this later. AND, I've wanted one of these on the car since I first saw one.

Worth the wait:

I had to laugh. The auto-generated URL from imgur had a no-no word built in. Evom didn't like the link

Just placed another small order. Enough to finish the timing and mount the turbo, mainly. Hopefully I can get my clutch ordered next week.

I was planning in it, for budget's sake. I have more time (for a swap later) than I have money for a proper clutch right now. I won't be doing much launching and power mods will be slow for a while. Unless I find a good deal on an Exedy HD, I'll probably put in a new stock disc and call it a day.

Work for tonight:

You should run the Comp HD single disc with the stock flywheel. Super cheap and is a great clutch.

Super cheap is relative I'm still on the fence. I just read up on it, though, and that would probably be my choice. Thanks for the tip.
