Yeah I wasn't suggesting that. I was just interested in what a GTX 3071R could provide as far as numbers.

A build by a better known vendor would be advised.

I think you will have to compromise somewhat but you will still have a reliable fun car.

I love my BBK-3B, and 2.0XTR will get those whp numbers at that psi. Not sure how well the turbo will hold up to extended track use though, and the ratio of turbine to MAP pressure will be 1:1 or higher out the top at 24-25 psi, so not ideal for keeping heat down. GTX3076R or dare I something bigger like a GTX3576R. There is always the single scroll EFR 7163 as well, but not sure of how well it will do for turbine pressure.

Brian, out of curiosity, do you think the starvation issues you had prior to installing the surge tank brought about the motor issue?

Well...

After going over my logs of the day with a fine tooth comb and having a discussion with some very experienced Evo guys from the UK I've come to a very interesting new theory of what happened. I say theory because unfortunately I was not logging my fuel pressure yet, which would have made this much more black and white.

Every single lap, all day long, I was getting much leaner AFRs in one single corner of the track. ONLY in that corner and it was in the logs every single time. It happened to be a corner where I couldn't really keep an eye on any gauges because it's high speed, high-G and it's a very short WOT event. It would run 12.2-12.3 instead of the normal 11.6-11.8

What makes this even more interesting is that it happens to be a corner after two long straights of full WOT in third through fifth gear, basically WOT with a couple shifts for a minute and 15 secs or so.

So basically the theory is that the surge tank was emptying and the OEM in-tank fuel pump couldn't keep up with filling it back up in time. All day long I was going out with 3/4 of a tank of fuel. The particular session I lost the motor I went out with a little under 1/2 tank of fuel and from the logs, the event looked EXACTLY like fuel starvation from before when I didn't even have the surge tank. So basically, the tank emptied, but where as before in the session, I had enough fuel in the OEM tank to not slosh to the other side, this time there wasn't enough fuel, the OEM pump starved, so it couldn't feed the surge tank and... goodbye cylinder #4. This time the log showed 12.6 then spiked to 15.1 and that was the end. This all happened within 300rpm.

Like before, it looks like the fueling demands of me running E80 at the track has created another weak spot.

Well, at least you probably found it. Sounds like it should be resolved with putting a walbro 255, or maybe even a 450 inside the stock tank so it can quickly fill the surge tank on the straight aways so you have the reserve for any up coming corners.

And always go out with a full tank so whatever pump is in the tank doesn't get starved.

Friggin' Evo 10....

Yup. I'm glad the CT9A seems to be without that issue.

It does, it just takes way longer to show up.

I haven't noticed in my car yet. Have had it down to 1/4 tank on E. I will be logging next track day though to make sure I'm not getting unnoticed lean spots.

If you don't mind, could you share your fuel pump controller settings? I'm going to be helping a friend install the radium surge tank with walbro 450 and the same pump controller in his X, and it would be nice to forego the trial and error with the controller. And what MAP sensor did you use? Did you just tap into the output wire of the stock MAP sensor? Thanks.

The issue is there on the CT9A. Was dealing with it at my last track day. Normally we run the track CCW, but decided to switch it up and run it CW. If I went out with less than a half tank it would get super lean and start sputtering. Filled it all the way up and had no issues for the rest of the day.

exactly, it's track specific as well.

Thunderhill is very left turn centric.

I use the Kalvico map sensor from Zeitronix. It's hooked up to my zeitronix and yes I tapped it for the fuel controller.

I'll take a photo of the controller settings, I can't remember them off the top of my head.

Did you use the 3.5 bar, or the 5 bar? I'll see if my friend wants to buy, Idk if he wants to spend the extra $120 right now. Might just tap into the OEM MAP sensor on the mani since its a 3bar. But knowing what sensor you use, and your settings will give an idea of what boost levels you have the controller start ramping voltage at.
