Yes I considered it but moved away from it for two reasons:
1. Tubular manifold
2. Not stealth enough for me in CA
My current problem is trying to figure out how to find/make a full 3" intake from compressor to filter not look obviously aftermarket...

just caught up with the build - brutal to hear. the car fuel starved even with a surge tank in it? if the pump has to fill the surge tank too how do you prep for that? bigger pump?

Even with proper mounting? Just too much heat being against the firewall? And what if it's built out of schedule 10 stainless?
No, it needs a surge tank. Basically, the stock pump wasn't flowing enough to keep the surge tank full. Then when the stock pump was starved during a corner, it wasn't filling the surge tank and the surge tank pump would start to starve.
Do you have to get inspected every so often in CA? I use to have e-check in OH but they would just check for exhaust content, and any CEL, never a physical check of parts and such.

Unfortunately that is only one of the theories of what went wrong. Since I wasn't logging the correct things we really don't know. The only thing I do know is the car leaned out and I have a non working Evo that has been sitting in my garage for the last four months.

I'm getting a solution together to be able to log 'all the things' for this next round...

Unless I get my hand caught in the cookie jar.
an intake would cause you to fail smog's visual check even if all codes were clear?
cobb offered a 3" silicone inlet pipe. it mates up to stock position airbox/other. that would be the most discrete 3" inlet i can think of.
