You can get brand new OEM cranks for approx $700 so almost half of what the Manley is.

I'm most likely sticking to my 2.0L plans. If I had to spend another $1,300 I could find better places to do it.

Daytona Mitsu JUST sold a brand new OEM crank take off for $500. I almost jumped on it last week, now I wish I had.

Cool. I think the 2.0L is the better option, regardless of cost. The 2.2 doesn't have a great rod ratio..

I have been hearing about the center diff pin issue for Evo Xs. I haven't seen a failure associated with it.

Do you think it's something that will concern you? I would guess not seeing the clutch wear on your stock clutch.

Link to the related article describing the issue. It's in the bottom paragraphs. http://www.jackstransmissions.com/pages/evox-review

The newer ones have upgraded diff pins from the factory so my 2014 is okay.

No, not at all. It has what look like water spots, not actually water spots but visually look like something like that.

Those bearings you posted look like trash, and why are they green?

I packed my bare block today to send to Race Engine Development for sleeving.

FYI, if you are shipping a block and get the idea to try out the Instapak RT foam expanding packing bags.... Save your money. All five of mine only half filled with foam when activated. Waste of $50. I should have just bought a bunch of foam and cut it down. Oh well.

The block is all nice and comfy now and ready to ship out.

Missing my Evo...

Here is the last photo I took before the motor tear down. This is with my winter tire/wheel setup.

So, Steve at RED called me just now. Sleeving with 86.5 bore will be done tonight and he will ship it back out either Monday or Tuesday.

The turnaround on this has been FOUR DAYS. Amazing considering it fell right over the holidays (the block was delivered to him on Christmas Eve) and the horror stories I've heard before about how long sleeving can take.

Steve is the man!

That's awesome. I just spent the last 20 minutes reading their process on the site. Definitely very thorough.

Happy to see the project starting down the road to completion.

See if you can make the Team Topak Chuckwallafest. 2 days at Chuckwalla for $180. 4/1-4/2. I'm already signed up, trying to get Kaj to go as well.

If I *REALLY* wanted to I could find the time to build a motor, but I have other priorities in life currently and honestly, I don't have interest in building a motor. My big mechanical efforts are in the past.

I actually hate working on cars now. I'd gladly pay others to do the large things.

I live in a house.
Hey Bryan, I'm very sorry to hear about your engine, but after having not been in the Evo community for almost ten years, I also didn't know you picked up an X (last I remember, you got rid of the 8). I'm glad to hear you have the resources to rebuild it and will be enjoy following your thread. Happy 2017, and I hope it's filled with good track days. Get that 2:01!

Dave
