Could it be that when it's fuller it backs up the turbo oil return? So weird.

The drain is well above the oil level when the engine is running.

That's what I figured too, which is why I said it's weird.

I log crank case pressure at the valve cover. It's never positive.

One thing to note is that my X takes 6.5qts of oil now with the MAP pan and cooler. Not sure if that makes any difference in this though.

Have you tried calling precision? If you never have positive crank case pressure, there is no reason for the turbo to smoke.

Put the car on a real dyno today. This is a local Mustang dyno.

28.5psi flat across
14* max timing (8500rpm)
11.5-11.7 AFR

I'd turn it up more but I'm dropping fuel pressure 8,000 RPM +

So your 630ish VD numbers are pretty close. Badass.

I would be calling precision to see wtf is up with the turbo. If you send it in, have them upgrade the compressor to the gen2 55mm...

Also, that's sounds about like the right amount of power for the walbro 450 to run out of fuel. Time for a Bosch 044.

Here is the log of that pull if interested: https://datazap.me/u/razorlab/sedyno...&zoom=828-1176

I'll try and give precision a call. I'm dreading having to take the turbo off.

It does suck, but I feel like there is something wrong with. The car I put together with a BB 6466 and 2.4LR making 850whp doesn't smoke. And it just has 2x 1/2" vent lines going to a VTA catch can.

Your manifold is like the AMS manifold though (seems like MAP does nothing but copy other companies lol), I feel like the turbo can be wiggled out without removing the manifold

Right, however the custom turbo support bracket I had made and all the inconel shielding makes things more interesting

I discovered I now have an oil leak on the back of the engine. Looks to be possibly coming from where the girdle meets the block, which would absolutely suck. One thing after the f'in other with this damn thing....

So oil leak.... first I thought it might have been worse case and leaking from the girdle but with a mirror I saw that it might be from the oil return line fitting. Hoping it's that and not the girdle!

Also, once again I noticed the car no longer burns oil from the turbo when the dip stick is inbetween the dots. If it's higher then it smokes. *scratches head*

Today I also took the spark plugs out and checked them. These have about 1,500 miles on them and multiple WOT pulls at as high as 29-30psi. They look pretty good to me.

The plugs are in order of cyl 4 - 3 - 2 - 1

Went for a drive on one of the local roads so decided to try another vantage point with the Rylo 360 camera. I mounted it just under my rear view mirror on the windshield. Not sure if I like this angle as much as from the sunroof.

Also the inner kid in me came out in the tunnel on the way home:

Plugs look good!

Rotating cam is slick. When you going to start your own Podcast
and call it...... : ) "The Smoking Turbo"?

sponsor Bardahl

Interesting oil level plays a difference with the smoking and wonder if your getting into an excessive crankcase windage condition when you fill up to your top mark. Your monitoring crank pressure but an oil spray whipped up by the crank could be pulled into your system and burned. Your finger pointing the turbo but it could be oil windage. Does that pan have a good baffle or screen?

The leak I had after my rebuild was from the MIVEC fitting behind the block that leaked down and looked like the same thing. Trans and transfer case didn't have to come out after all.
