Utah Evos
Shotgun Huh? Well, there's no time to bulletproof my car like the present. I think I should go lightweight, though, so maybe Kevlar? I think the ceramics are a bit too heavy for my "rally" car. But then I still have to take care of the windows...
Can't let #2 thread get above the old classic.
The new Continental Extreme Contacts have alot softer sidewalls than the Advans! I can get my shimmy shake on with a couple little wiggles of the wheel. It feels like I'm shankin' it like a rap video.

Rod knock due to oil starvation, basically. And today they're replacing some coolant hoses that have been leaking and my brake pads that are pretty much gone....I think my Evo is cursed (well the brake pads were my fault) And as for the built engine, well they did it all before we knew for a FACT that we were getting screwed, so basically it was all done and 4 months later when we figured out we were SOL. And now I have a new question though, does anyone here in UT have very little but an EMS done to their car? I'm thinking about doing that and then slowly building up, just wanted to get a feel for starts. And what exhausts do everyone have that live 'round here, cuz I think it's high time I made it so you can actually hear my car next to the S2000, anyone know of any websites that have sound bits to listen to exhaust sounds for the Evo?
No one has just EMS. EMS is cool and very functional but it is a standalone and you will have to put TONS of time into making your car run correctly in cold weather/hot weather, start up etc. If you don't have any mods I wouldn't do it. Build your car the normal way... part by part.
The Perrin exhaust a few of the locals are running is super nice. The guys at Rally Sport Direct in West Jordan have it all in stock. bbbwrx works for them.

Hmm, I looked at that Exhaust thread with all the exhaust info, I don't really like the sound of the Perrin, sounds too much like the S2000's does. So what do you think would be a good idea of what things to do first if not EMS (cuz it sounded like that one was a good one to do) Anyone have a list of things to do in a good order?
The Perrin stuff is awesome sounding, it "thumps" then "roars" don't trust those sound clips, around here there is HKS, Perrin, Helix, and Buschur if you meet up with someone they can let you hear. If you run a cat or not that makes a huge difference. Lots of locals are catless and it's LOUD at wide open throttle.
You need:
1. K&N drop in filter
2. Boost control so you can hold 20 psi to redline
3. 3in turbo back exhaust with a highflow cat or a cat delete
4. Blow off valve that doesn't leak at high boost
That's the basic's. If you want more
5. HKS cams and cam gears. 264's are good street cams, 272's are the goods if you can handle a little rough idling
6. A Walbro fuel pump goes with the cams, and maybe ARP head studs
7. AFC to control your fuel, or maybe a Vishnu Xede or UTEC.
If you still want more ... your name is Zach or Rob. Upgrade your turbo, manifold, bigger front mount, and now you are ready for some serious engine management. Now you need AMS or Autronic or Power FC.

Those Perrin one's do sound a lot like our S2000's exhaust, which I hate the noise of it (and I have heard one in person before). And as to what you're saying Jid2, are you sure about that, cuz the places I've seen listings of an AEM EMS install on a stock Evo give an increase like 65whp, which to me for the cost makes a lot more sense than those 1st four things. What kind of K&N is good, I was looking at those, but do you just get one that replaces the square stock one in the plastic box, or one that replaces the whole plastic box all together? And what's a good boost controller? Is there someone one here that drives a Yellow Evo that goes to the U, cuz I've seen it a few times up there? Anyway, if I actually see anyone around I will make sure to ask.

I'm not an expert on AEM because I don't have one. But any standalone is a lot of work to get your car to run correctly. Sure they have pre-programmed maps, but those will not make your car run perfect. You will need lots of time and effort to get everything to run like stock and be reliable. You will also need a wideband and a OBD-II scan tool. Otherwise your car will be at the shop everytime the weather changes. A kid down in Orem blew up his Evo running AEM because they tried to tune it themselves. You can take it to modern garage all you want, but what will you do when you can't get your car to start on the first really cold day, or get the fan and cooling system to work with the AC on the first really hot day. This is just what I hear from people, so take it for what it is worth. You won't pass emissions with AEM, its not OBD-II. Sure you can make 65 more HP, on higher octane gas, running really lean A/F's. Take that to an autocross on a hot day and you'll end up with another blown motor.
Spend 3 days researching stuff on here. But don't believe everything you hear. Especially if it is from a company that sells stuff.
A K&N drop in filter is the way to go, keep the factory air box. Lot's of research has shown that intakes screw up the signal coming into the MAF sensor.
Get whatever exhaust you want. But the Perrin stuff is really nice and you can get it locally and not have to wait. Perrin also makes a good manual boost controller. Most people just use a manual boost controller because it's cheap and works great.
If you're bored and have nothing to do during the day then stop by my work at lunchtime tomorrow or something. I'll take you for a ride in my car and answer any questions the best I can. I've meet you before. You came up to me at the cobb meet drive and asked if my car was an Evo VII.

Well i dont know much about tuning but once you install the EMS then install all your other stuff dont you have to tune it everytime you install something? I think its easier to get all of the Basics and then some, then get the EMS. Thats just easier for me...but what do i know? i dont really know much about anything...I use a Turbo XS Dual Stage Boost Controller...
Ok, I see your point with the AEM thing, lol, plus I realized that we didn't get the one for the S2000 till well after we did a bunch. Is there another EMS that's good to get without doing all the engine work possible? I hear the Vishnu XEDE is good and the Apex-I S-AFC/II are both pretty good for starter, but are they gonna have the problems like the AEM? And they only control fuel right? Not EVERYTHING like the AEM does (ac, intercooler spray, etc etc)? Anyway, if AEM is really a bad idea, then that's good news cuz AEM is expensive, but if it was a good idea it would be worth it. Plus, that "list" that you gave me jid, at least the first part, adds up to be as much as the AEM is alone. If the K&N is really that good of an idea, then that's awesome cuz it's like 70 bucks is all...anyway, I'll PM you and find out about tomorrow.
Oh yeah, and there'll be A LOT more than 3 days of research going into this, sometimes people need money before they can modify their car, and in order to get money one needs a job, and in order to get a job one needs to go out and find a job...
If I had to choose 1 exhaust it would be the invidia exhaust. The TI tip is incredible. Looks good too. If I had the money to do it all over again that is what I would do. If you don't like the perrin then you probably won't like the Helix. There are a ton of exhausts out there. Downpipes are farely generic we have a perrin in stock that you could look cat. The Perrin MBC is CHEAP and works just as good as any other. I had one but have taken it off to try a new thinking of boost control that I hope works well. I have a K&N drop in. I noticed no difference in power. I will be switching to a intake soon because if there is a MAF voltage problem I can tune around it. Do an exhaust and a boost controller first you will see big power gains for a very good price. If you want to check out my car call or stop by the shop and I will take you for a spin. the number is 801.619.1779 or stop by www.rallysportdirect.com there is a map on the contact us page. We don't stock a TON of the EVO stuff but we are mostly a suby shop. I am the evo guy nick is the suby queen.
