You get little to nothing back when you sell. I read where a lot of guys take off all the mods and revert a car back to stock to sell. WOW! That is what kills resale for everyone because nobody wants to touch them with a ten foot pole when used. That is also the beauty of computer controlled boosted cars. Very easy to get away with that stuff easy.
I agree so far as boosting the engine, aside from mods for fuel efficiency, I guess -- but, mod equipment is often higher quality and more durable, and a lot of it comes with smaller profit margins (i.e. better value) than crap mass-manufactured in China or some other generic parts mill. Certainly brakes, wheels, and stainless exhaust equipment are obvious places to improve a car without much expense, as are side-issue parts like sound equipment, and there are a ton of premium routine-replacement parts as well. Here in Canada, where roads are often salted in winter, a stainless exhaust is a brilliant purchase over the galvanized junk that will cost you almost as much to start, and much more than stainless over its lifetime.

People who obsess about resale should not do anything to their cars, but then they're all driving base-model Camrys and Accords... and all of their service is done at dealers, even after their car is out of warranty. Rumour has it that resale-obsessed people are also fond of wood trim and know nothing about cars aside from driving skills.

Just making a point. Dumping all that money into mods, is money gone in most cases. Since these cars are often modded, no one except kids on a budget go near them, since the fear of the unknown as to what has been done to them is great.

NO ONE should ever buy a car based on resale, unless you buy a classic like Ferrari, they all lose money.

Yep if you really have to have one best to wait until 2010 when hopefully Subaru has grasped the engine problems.

Good to see you continuing your path of spreading false information about Subaru.

That's quite the allegation especially from a mod. What is this false information?

In every Subaru thread, you say the motors blow up, the reliability is poor, the cars get destroyed by their Mitsubishi counterparts, etc. despite the fact that A. only a few motors have had problems and they've been completely covered by warranty, B. Subaru still has good reliability and C. in most tests, the two cars are virtually identical performance wise.

I have known several STi/WRXs engines that have had problems. None have been covered under warranty and my friend was even in a law suit with subaru.

When did I say the blown engines weren't covered by warranty? How many 'few' motors is too much? Again please tell me another manufacturer that is having a 'few' engines die virtually off the lot? There are only a 'few' car magazines out there yet C&D had to get the tranny replaced on their long term 08 STI. WRX's and STI's are having more problems than the average car right now. Hard to debate that.

Were they modified? What I'm referring to are new, stock cars that are having motor problems, all of which appear to have been covered.

We know of at least 3 Evos that have had gas pedals snap, is that too much? What about the evos with oil leaks? Tune issues? What about the evo that was lemon lawed? Porsche had an issue with the boxster but on a much larger level. We still don't know how many cars have actually been affected, it could be 5, it could be 10, who knows.

It's more than five just going by NASIOC. Again gas pedals, oil leaks, aren't catastrophic failures. Tune issues will be ongoing as the 4B11 is all-new and Subaru has had years of tuning issues and still haven't got it right. Despite being 100% new the EVO X has been a pretty trouble free launch overall.
