IX Engine idle noise (belt?) (video)
At idle, my "scraping sound" happens about every second, then when I rev up the engine, it happens every half second, quarter second, etc. Being that the belt is so long and takes a while for a full rotation, I am completely convinced that it has to do with the edge of the belt contacting something at a certain point. IMO a bearing you would hear constantly. After removing my timing cover, I could see a point on the side of the timing belt indicating wear from touching something. I am going with the original claim of it contacting the crank sensor blade. I thought this was concluded already?
well i have heard different scenerios. but i do think that at least everyone that i had heard this from had the belt replaced as well. i'm gearing up as i type this to head out to the dealership. 3+ hrs so this should be an interesting ride. by tuesday i should have some info.
at least with this info i can tell them what other people have had.

lol mine 06 IX does this - my 07 didn't
its coming from the belts somewhere.
kinda sounds like ball bearings being rolled around in a can... but not as loud...
doesn't always do it, which is weird!
done it from day 0

Don't worry, I haven't forgot to update this thread.
My 06 IX MR has been at the dealer for 1.5 weeks. They thought they fixed it first, put it back together and still made the noise. They tore it apart again and attempted to fix it a second time. They were going to listen to it this morning (cold) and make sure it didn't make the thwap, thwap, thwap noise.
I might be able to get it back today.
I miss my IX.

I got mine from the dealer and the noise is completely gone!! They replaced the tensioner and the idler pulley. The belt was also replaced (I paid for the belt) just so I don't have to do it in another 25k. Car has 35k on it. Thanks warranty!!
Just Called the dealer.... no love. Still broken (ie, still thwaps). At this point, my guess is the belt. Maybe the balance belt. All of the pulleys have been replaced.
Guess I wait another week.

my noise is a tapping sound coming from inside the timing belt region. i am gonna do a full timing kit replacement on the timing area. i hope i solve the problem!
bump for any advice before i do this?

Is it the injectors? That's normal.
my noise does not increase with idle (happens only when car is fully warmed up at idle rpm) or at least i think its only at idle, the engine is so damn loud.

i got as far as loosening all of the bolts on the pulleys
make sure you have a friend to help and all the right tools.
if you plan on doiing this yourself than good luck! it is a tedious procedure. i looked at the manual and pretty much change my mind

what i am eally asking is what could be the problem? what needs changing?
before i go do the entire timing kit change (i dont wanna do extra work!)
well from what i have gathered so far doing some research. it seems like it could be either the belt, pulley tensioner, and or a belt rubbing on a sensor. you'll have to pull it apart and inspect. but since your doing a timing kit i would suggest throwing in a new set of pulley tensioners if its not in your kit.

well i guess i have been lucky so far no noises on my IX, with 13469 k
