IX Engine idle noise (belt?) (video)
Having the same issue!!!!!!
I have an 06 MR and I have the exact same sound. So I just took it to the dealship and they do have it as a known issue at the Glendale Mitsubishi. I am having them contact me with the exact parts that were replaced. I will update everyone with the information they provide me. This way if you get a Stealership Rep that is retarded you can provide him the detailed information to fix the problem. I should be getting the car back in a day or 2 so I will update everone.
My friend in NTEC has this same noise and the local dealer which shall remain nameless told him it was a normal noise and not to worry. We shall find out soon after inspecting the tbelt if the sound is coming from the tbelt area.

^ Thanks for finding this.
Happens to mine. Took my car to the dealer and they told me it was normal. I looked into it more and demanded that my Service Advisor check with the rep who said it was normal as well. Glad I found this thread, now I will go to another dealership and see what they say.

ok this is easy. my car makes that noise sometimes so i poped off my timing belt cover let it run and it was coming from the belt. being it was dry. one of my buddies that also has a evo and is an amazin mechanic came over and took a look at it with me and he spray sutten on it and went right away. he told me i could get this stuff and spray on it should go away for good. ill ask him again let you all know!
Yeah...I had the Tensioner pulley, tensioner arm, crank sensor blade, alternator belt, timing belt, and alternator pulley all replaced. There was definite grooves on the crank sensor blade (looks like a plate) from the belt. The noise was more irritating than the damage it was causing. Over time it could have been bad. Didn't get it fixed till after 11,000 miles.

the noise is coming from the timing belt area, i have a full timing kit in hand and will be swapping. sounds like a bad bearing so should be a simple fix.
will let everyone know!
well i talked to my dealership today and they had no luck "hearing/locating" the sound. i had to expalin everything i had done to the car and why i think its in the timing belt area. i'll call them tomorrow and see what they had found. i've let them know everything that i had read on the issue and what i think they should look for. we'll see if they find out what it is.

i think they were trying that too before they received my info. but at one point i had sprayed some belt conditioner on my timing belt and the noise went away for about a day, then it came back again lol

Had the same problem on my 2006 IX GSR, up here in Minnesota the belt noise was very pronounced with the cold weather until the car got into operating temperature and then went away. I left the car out overnight in the sub zero weather and when the service manager at the new dealership went to start it up the following morning he heard the noise LOUD and CLEAR.
You see the prior dealership I went to had replaced all the other parts everyone else has mentioned like the tensioner pulley, tensioner arm, crank sensor blade, accessory belt, alternator pulley, etc. with no resolution. I found out that the Master Tech at the new dealership I went to had seen this problem before on other EVOs, and they actually apologized for the other dealership not diagnosing the problem after 4 attempts.
So the new dealership replaced the timing belt under warranty and then asked if I wanted the balance belt replaced since they were in there for just the cost of the belt, I said YES. It's now been 5,000 miles since the TIMING belt was replaced and the belt noise is still GONE

D@mn, I just saw this thread. I'm @ 29K now and have heard that noise since 14K miles. If I do bring it in, it'll be the first time my car has been back to the dealer ever. CT dealers are worthless. Hmmm.. decisions decisions...
