Man that sucks Dave, obviously this can happen to the very best of us. Its these times when I personally want to give up and sell everything, but then I just take a 1 week break without touching a wrench and Im back at it with a new plan. lol

How bout doing a 1g/2g streetcar for your amusement? Love my 1g auto more then my Evo I had. Other option is trying to get the first trans to hold more power, but I doubt it will ever hold the power youre making.

Dave did you hear Spyros has an auto working in an Evo?

just kidding... but I figured it would light your fire haha.

Keep at it. It's the projects that are the hardest that are the most rewarding.

As the wise philosopher Harry Callahan said, "A man's got to know his limitations."

Sometimes it's better to walk away from the abyss.

maybe that's what you need to get this auto trans done and enjoy the car while setting a few records

I just spent the entire weekend triming trees in my yard. Blah. Would have been much more fun if I could have been working on something as potentially rewarding as what you're doing. I do understand the overload. Lack of progress and resulting head banging has caused me to walk away from ECU disassembly several times.

i think the huge amount of money this is taking really makes it tough to do.

Alright, my head is half right again, which is bad cause I've only been half right, now that makes me a 1/4..........

Just letting you guys know what I have thought about over the last 36 hours:

I have what I am estimating at over $20,000 wrapped up in this already, to quit is not a solution. I have to get my money back. The shop also needs a new source of income and I am banking on this being major. I also refuse to put the car back to a 5 speed, it is simply not going to happen. I could just sell it and stop messing with EVO's that is not an option because I love the car and am crazy to get it fixed and drive it again, I MISS IT! I told myself if this doesn't work I will put a 6 bolt engine in the car with a 1g/2g auto trans and just turn the engine the other way and build new mounts, that's how set I am on making this work. Doing that is not going to sell parts and is not going to get my money I have stuck in this back already.....................

So, it leaves me figuring it out, end of story.

Today we have pressure gauges coming to check the port on the trans to see if it does have pressure where it is needed. I tried to order them from Mitsu, won't have them until NOVEMBER?! WTF?! So Vince is sending a set down for me to use. That will tell us something, what I am not sure of but something.

I am also ordering a complete new rebuild kit to go through the entire trans instead of re-using anything in it as there is obviously a hydraulic problem. My friend Dave took the 900 page manual for it home and has spent the last 24 hours reading it, really he probably didn't sleep. He has found two potential problems after pouring over the manual and then thought of another that may be the cause that was missed by everyone so far.

So first, pressure check. Second is to rebuild the trans that is out of the car again and then swap it back in and go from there. I'd like to have it tested again by the weekend.

with Tons of money and time into this project I'm happy to see you are using these sets backs as fuel for the fire to complete the project. BR is a bar setter. This project when done will raise the bar for all evo platforms again. The Autos for DSM's has brought new life to a dieing breed. DSM's can go fast [U]reliably[U] and without $2000 clutches or $4000 5 speed trannies. Evo's aren't dead by any means but this will def be a wake up call for them. Keep on it Dave! Good luck!
