The BOV will most likely void your engine and transmission warranty. I know its lame but when I spoke to the district service manager nothing on the intake side and before the cat could be modded. The boost controller will definately void your engine and powertrain warranty. Again YMMV depending on the dealership.

due to many negative stories concerning this topic - I will post this start --> finish on my personal case...

The car: 2005 Mitsu Evo MR


Situation: Found rust under the right side of the spoiler on top of the bumper, keep in mind that I have never taken off the wing


Called a local dealer, went there, got a picture taken of the site, and said that they were going to email it to corporate and assess it. They assured me that this would definitely be covered and would only take a day or two...

I also brought to their attention this:

It doesn't look like much, but on 3 of my bbs rims there's rust, or a coloring of rust on the inner part of the spokes...unfortunately, they said this wouldn't covered under warranty...

I will update this as soon as the info comes...

You sure it isn't brake dust and rust off your rotors on the BBS? Aluminum doesn't rust like steel, it is very resistant to rusting. Aluminum Oxide doesn't have the red color oxide produced by Iron. You might wanna try wiping it off....

That's brake dust fused to the outer surface of the paint on your BBS wheels, not rust.

If cleaners have not worked, you might try rubbing compound or wet-sanding the brake dust contamination off and then hitting it with a fresh layer of clear coat (if those BBS wheels have a clearcoat???).

thx for the reply guys...i really cleaned them up this time and couldn't get them off w/ my regular wheel cleaner (meguair's) and i really didn't try to scrub them - i sprayed them rinse, sprayed sponged them, then dried them off w/ a soft cloth - got the pesky dirty corners, but not the reddened areas...

they said it'll take a couple days, so I'll keep you posted

I'm considering buying an IX very soon and getting it used. Down here in california when you buy used you can usualy get an outside warranty good for 80-100k or so, and basicaly you can take the car to any mechanic who's certified....I was wondering if I mod the car and something breaks in the drivetrain can I possibly take it to road race engineering(popular evo shop). I live 5 minutes from there, and have them fix it without having to worry about anything being moded?

In my experience those aftermarket warranties are worthless, especially for what you're trying to accomplish. I think you'd be better off saving the money you were planning to spend on the warranty and put it towards the repair work when something does eventually break.

extended warranties are good for the average driver. you pay like a 100 dollar deductable and they fix most problems. but you race shop might raise some flags and the warranty company might not cover some of the expenses.

Warranties are bs as long as u got the money and the know-how to fix everything. If ur gonna mod you better know how or know someone who can fix everything. Cuz you'll get warranty bs.

i got my evo @ a subi dealer and bought a warranty. 100,000 miles and have in writing that bolt-on mods are ok. Just cant do internal engine mods like cams, cam gears, etc., etc. If you get things in writing its hard for the warranty company to deny you.

Will be cancelled!!! I've been going through lots of threads regarding warranty issues... So I decided to cancel my 10yr/100k warranty I bought from Mitsubishi since I am planning to mod my car.... I also found out the price I paid for my warranty will be prorated since I bought my car 8 months ago? how does this work? any comments/suggestions regarding my decision?
