I keep getting those stupid post cards in the mail from the dealer saying my maintenance is due. I do my own as well, but I was also curious if the dealer will give us any trouble for doing our own. I pretty much don't have a warranty anyhow with my mods so it's not that big of a deal.

It might affect your warranty in the sense that if there's a problem with your car you have no proof you've been changing your oil. This happened to me with a Dodge Intrepid. Chrysler said receipts of oil bought at stores didn't constitute proof of an oil change.

The dealer must PROVE that your oil changes caused whatever part to fail. It is your RIGHT not to have to go get maintenance done at a dealer.

So then what the hell does count as proof of an oil change?

If this is in response to my post it did have to do with oil changes, namely sludge build up.

In my case we had no sludge, but had much of the same failure of the engine as those who had sludge build up. Chrysler required proof of all oil changes and receipts from stores didn't count.

You're correct that you don't have to have maintenance done by the dealer, but as I was pointing out there can be a downside.

The dealer here tried to tell me that it could possibly void my warranty, I said that is a bunch of BS, no way I'm paying $80 to have the dealer do it. He then told me just to keep my reciepts and records of my oil changes

Receipts from a Jiffy Lube type place and dealer records.

Just make sure you keep your reciepts so that if something does fail you have proof that you did the oil change
